I woke up to a ray of sunlight hitting my eyes. I brought up my hand to cover them and rolled over with a groan. You know, for being so far away, the sun has perfect aim. I tried to fall asleep again but I couldn't no matter how hard I tried. Damn you sun.
I ended up thinking about last night and the whole scene with Alex. Why did he just slam the door like that? I mean, I don't really care, but I don't want him angry at me either... I went into the little bathroom attached to my room and took a shower and brushed my teeth. I ran my fingers through my hair, trying to untangle the gulf ball sized knots. Eventually I gave up and sat down on my bed. A shiver went down my spine and I rubbed the sides of my arms, trying to warm myself up. It was really cold in here, I bet the garden would be a lot warmer. I padded towards the door and slowly opened it, checking left and right for anyone that would stop me. No one was in sight, thank goodness. I crept out into the hall and headed towards the door, focusing on trying to make as little noise as possible.
"What are you doing?" An angry voice demanded behind me.
I jumped two feet in the air and exclaimed, "Jesus Christ!" I leaned against the wall and put a hand to my chest, trying to steady my rapidly beating heart. I turned around to find Alex staring intently at me, his nostrils slightly flaring.
"What are you doing?" He repeated, crossing his arms. He looked at me with his piercing green eyes and I slightly cringed into the wall.
"Well?" He asked, raising an eyebrow at me.
The words were stuck in my throat and I just stared at him with my mouth agape.
He sighed loudly and shook his head. "I warned you." He said as he came towards me. The next thing I knew, I was flung over his shoulder again like a sack of potatoes. My eyes widened as he walked towards the garden door. "No.. not the walk of shame again." I whispered. Then I started to squirm in his grip and yelled at him to put me down because it was not what it looked like. He stopped but didn't put me down.
"Oh, it's not? So, you sneaking out of your room and heading towards the garden yet again wasn't another one of your escape attempts, right?" He sarcastically remarked as he continued towards the door.
I panicked and started hitting my fists against his back. "Urgh, quit it! That actually hurts!"
"Good! Now put me down and I'll explain." I said, hitting him one more time for good measure.
"Now that wasn't very nice. I don't think I'll put you down now." He remarked, hoisting me up his shoulder slightly more as if to prove his point. He started walking towards the door again.
"Aleeex!" I whined. "Please?" I quietly said.
He stopped in his tracks. "Wha... this must be a dream. You actually said please." He sounded astonished.
I closed my eyes and took a deep breath which only made him chuckle. Don't lose your cool now Fawn. I bit back a smart remark. "Can you please put me down?"
"No. Explanation first."
I tensed up. Why the little butt head. I looked down and realized that my hands were curled around his shirt, wrinkling the coarse hospital scrubs. I could feel him trying to hold back laughter.
I regained my composure and said, "Look, I took a shower and it was cold in my room. So I thought the garden would be a nice place to just laze around and let my hair dry. No escape plan or anything."
He slipped me off his shoulder and held me at arms length. I could feel his eyes intently analyzing my face as I looked at the polished floor.
Eventually, he let me go and sighed. "Alright. I'll let it slide this time. But I'm coming with you."
