Alex POV

I stared after the bus as I thought of a reason why Fawn would just snap like that. I heard footsteps come towards me.

"Is everything alright?" Adam asked.

I turned around and shook my head. "I have to go find her. That bus leads towards the worst part of the city." I started walking towards the bus's next destination.

Adam grabbed my shoulder. "Alex, you won't be able to catch up by walking."

"Then what am I supposed to do? There are no taxis around."

Adam smirked at me. "Follow me." He said, turning on his heel.

I followed and stopped short when I saw what he brought me to. "Adam. You know I've sworn that off." I said, looking at him in disbelief.

"Come on Alex. It's not like you're going to race it. If you don't want to drive it, then I will." He said as he got on the motorcycle.

I stood firmly where I was, not budging because I had promised that I would never ride another motorcycle again.

"We're wasting time." Adam said, as he held out a helmet.

I hesitated but then grabbed it. I groaned as I got on the motorcycle, memories flooding my mind. Goddammit Fawn, always pushing my limits.

Adam sped off and as the motorcycle gained speed, I raised my hands in the air and I closed my eyes. The familiar feeling of freedom hit me and I relished the moment. I haven't felt this good in a long time.

"Enjoying it?" Adam asked, bringing me back to reality.

"No." I said gruffly, composing myself again.

Adam smiled at me. "Is that so?"

He sped up even more and began to weave in between cars.

I felt adrenaline rush throughout me and I grinned widely. The wind enveloping me, the danger increasing with every swerve, I missed it all. I looked at our reflection in the windows of the passing shops and a different face stared back at me. A face that I haven't seen in two years. That of my best friend. I stared at the back of Adam's jacket as I tried to block out the memories. I tried to bring back the euphoric feeling of being on a motorcycle again, but it was no use.

"There's the bus!" Adam yelled, so I could hear him above the wind.

As we neared it, I jumped off the motorcycle before it came to a complete stop. I ran towards the bus door and looked at each person exiting it, waiting for Fawn to come out. When the doors began to close, I quickly got on the bus. I scanned the seats and saw no sign of Fawn.

"Where is she?" I yelled at the bus driver.

He looked taken aback. "Fawn. A tall girl with brown hair and auburn eyes."

"Boy, I see hundreds of people a day. How am I supposed to remember her?"

I got in his face. "You picked her up at your last stop."

His face turned from fear to sudden realization. "I remember her now. I dropped her off not too far from here because she had no money."

I turned around and let out a sigh of frustration. "Where exactly did you drop her off." I demanded.

"A five or ten minute walk from here." He responded immediately.

I got off the bus and looked up at the sky, it would get dark real soon. I quickly walked towards Adam.

"So?" He asked.

"She's somewhere around here. She couldn't have gone too far. Come on." I said, getting on the motorcycle and turning the key in the ignition. It pained me to ride a motorcycle again, but soon, all the gangs around this area would come out and there would be at least two victims. I didn't want her to be one.
