not an apology

If home is where the heart is,
I wonder if you have one at all.
You mock me for my compassion,
And laugh as others fall.

Truthfully, I never noticed
Just how insensitive you could be.
Perhaps it was a trait I overlooked,
Given our wretched history.

I would apologise for being distant,
But I am not the girl
You came to know.
I am no longer faithless;
No longer bound by hatred;
No longer all alone.

If you came to know the new me,
You would not like her at all.
For she is "too optimistic,"
"No longer realistic,"
And you would be appalled.

We are two different people,
And opposites do not attract.
Not when a simple conversation
Turns into a gruelling task.

You were a part of my past,
One I could never forget.
But I live for the future,
And no longer have regrets.
