You taught me to be strong,
To never be ashamed,
How to be kind to my neighbours,
And wear a smile upon my face.

To stand up for what I believe in,
And always do what is right,
Even when those actions
Require an immense amount of might.

You assured me
That I am good enough;
That I can accomplish anything I want.
You were there when I cried,
To dry all of my tears.
You taught me to be relentless,
And to always persevere.

You taught me to make
The best of any situation,
Trying as it may be.
"For the strongest of us,"
You said,
"Can find happiness in misery."

You taught me to
Never compromise my values
And to stand tall before my enemies;
That the best revenge is to smile
In the face of adversity.

You taught me to be independent,
Yet know when to ask for a helping hand.
When it comes to learning life lessons,
There is no one who can teach them
Quite like my mother has.

[translation: chingona like my mother. a "chingona," essentially, is a female who is badass.]
