There once was a girl
Who wanted nothing more
Than to blend in.
Yet no matter
How hard she tried,
She never managed
To remain hidden behind
The curtain.

She never had to say much;
For she visibly differed
From the rest.
And even when she
Altered her appearance,
She never seemed to
Pass the test.

She kept her opinions to herself
And her mouth sewed shut,
For she was harassed into thinking
She was never good enough.

But there came a time
Where she realised living a lie
Would cause her to fall apart.
So she tore her script to shreds,
And refused to play your part.

Never again would she
Compromise herself.
Never again would she
Lose sight of her individuality.
For in losing it all,
She reached an epiphany:
"I will never be you,
Just as you will never be me."

For once in her life,
She is content with who she is.
To those still buried in fear,
For you she has one wish:
May you learn to overcome
The tyranny of naysayers
The way she once did.
