Summer's POV
"The food here sucks" Mum sighed and I laughed at her so she narrowed her eyes at me.
"Yet you still eat the food" Dad sighed at her and she grinned at him.
"Yes and I always get more because I know all of the men in the room will end up eating what I buy anyway" she replied and he laughed at her.
"It's because you complain that you don't like the food Lucy" Dan sighed from my right and she winked at him.
"Well we are helping each other out then" my boyfriend laughed at her reply as he tangled his fingers in mine and huffed a sigh before brushing Lizzie's fringe out of her face again. Honestly her hair was pissing us all off. She may still be comatose but her hair had a mind of its fucking own.
A week had passed since Lucy and Nick had arrived and since then there had been no change in Lizzie. She was still in a coma and her injuries were still pretty bad but she hadn't needed anymore blood transfusions although as far as we knew none of her injuries were healing correctly. We'd had this news yesterday as we arrived at our usual time to keep watch over her all day. The nurses were now used to our large number being in the room and they managed to check her regularly even with us in the way. They didn't complain but told us that her condition was the same, which was good because at least she wasn't getting worse.
The relationship within the group was pretty good though. Dan got on really well with my sort of adopted parents and they had told me that they accepted him and that he was good for me. Although I knew that already because he was my boyfriend, plus Lizzie had already given me her blessing. Though she would've been biased of course but I saw now that she was right. They also got on really well with Adrian and Oli but things were still a little uncertain between them and Josh. But that was to be expected, they all made the effort to be civil though, which I knew that Lizzie would be grinning at if she were awake.
"Summer?" Dan questioned and I blinked out of my thoughts and looked into his blue eyes, which were full of questions.
"Sorry I spaced" I sent him a small smile and he nodded before kissing my head.
"It's understandable" he replied and I smiled at him. I loved that he understood me so well.
"Is Kay staying home?" Dad asked, smiling slightly at the mention of her. Dan nodded in reply.
"Yeah she had a really bad case of morning sickness today" he explained and Mum sighed.
"I feel for her" she stated and I grinned at her before turning my head a fraction to the right to watch my best friend.
Dan traced circles on the back of her hand and I smiled at this, remembering that Louise used to do that to both Lizzie and myself when we were younger as a way to calm us down whenever we were frightened, especially with some of the nightmares that Lizzie had had. Honestly for a six and a half year old she had the most terrible nightmares, though if I remembered rightly those nightmares had become true. I vaguely remember her blubbering about losing her sister and Nan over that year that we were six years old whenever I stayed the night. I could tell that it scared Louise slightly- who was nearly eight at the time- that her sister had such vivid nightmares. But the scary thing is that in the end she had lost her sister and Nan and her nightmares had become horrendous for the first few weeks after losing both people.
They were still horrible now and I had a bad feeling that even comatose she was still dreaming. That was something I had noticed yesterday as everyone got ready to leave. I was sitting in the exact same spot, holding her hand and talking to her like I have been doing when her forehead creased the way it used to when she was younger and dreaming before she started thrashing in the bed. But no thrashing happened, although I was sure I felt her muscles tense. Everyone had believed me when I'd told them after they returned and the doctor said they would perform some tests today to see how responsive she was. We were currently waiting for those results.
