I stood there, looking down at the pills in my hands. I bit my bottom lip out of nervousness. Never have I ever had to even think about buying these, let alone actually have to take them. I didn't think that I'd ever be in this position, but here I am. I tried sleeping last night after we got home but all of my efforts were useless, so I sat up all night until I eventually fell asleep around four in the morning.

Drawing all my attention back to the pills, I slowly and carefully read all of the instructions. Most of the words consisted of side effects and crap like that, but I still read it for safety precautions. At the end of reading it all, I summed it all up and basically I had to take it twelve hours after intercourse. I flickered my eyes up to the clock on my wall and it was ten in the morning. It was well over the twelve hour mark, but I assumed it didn't really matter. I punctured the foil on the back of the packet, pulled a pill out, and popped it in my mouth. It was sort of powdery tasting, so I went into the kitchen and flushed it down with some orange juice.

After putting the closing the fridge door, I noticed that there was a sticky note stuck to the door. I snatched it off and read what it said:

Out job hunting like I promised, remember? I left Max there with you, because duh, you can't bring a dog to an interview. Also, I called in sick for you at work, so you have a free day. And I wanna talk when I get back. Sorry about last night. - D

I traced the edges of the paper with my thumb before sitting it down on the table. I don't know what I feel about Drake. One minute he's doing the worst thing imaginable to make me have every right to hate him, but then the next, he's being a great guy and I have to ask myself why I hated him in the first place. He has to be thee most confusing person that I have ever met.

A small half whimper interrupted my thoughts. I turned my head to find Max slowly walking his way towards me. I carefully rushed over and picked him up into my arms. He was probably the most adorable puppy that I've ever seen.

"Hey, buddy, you hungry?" I said in a gentle voice.

I took his whine as a yes and went to the kitchen to pull him out some leftovers.

***********

It was around eight thirty when Drake finally came home. And I hate to admit it, but I kind of missed him. Being alone was always something that I had to deal with, but now knowing that someone was here but wasn't actually here, it just made me feel all the more lonely.

I was laying down on the couch watching TV with Max on my stomach, when I heard the front door open. I cocked my head to the side to find Drake standing at the door, he looked really exhausted.

"Hey, how'd it go?" I asked, slowly letting all the anger I had towards him slip away.

"Great." I tried to hear any sarcasm in his voice, but there wasn't any.

"Then why do you look so bummed?"

He sighed before coming over to the couch, moving my legs out of the way, and sinking down into it.

"Because, they all want me."

I put my legs on his lap and snickered a little.

"Well, that's a first. Seeing someone's job interview actually go absolutely perfect, and they're bummed about it, I mean. Either you're off or you're just dumb as all hell."

He laughed a little, and started rubbing my leg. It brought on a soothing feeling.

"You're right." He stated after a few minutes of silence.

"About what?"

"What you said last night. That if I'm not careful then we could both be carrying on a responsibility that neither of us are ready for."
