The cost of winning always requires sacrifice. In Liam's eyes, winning meant escaping the wrath of these dark mythical beasts chasing after his friends and himself, in his new favorite firetruck. In the dark beasts eyes, if they had any, it was probably catching up to them and doing something horrid to them. All of the CPGs' hearts were racing. Blood rushing in Liam's veins helped him push harder on the gas pedals. Whatever was chasing them must have been desperate to get their hands on them, because every time Liam sped up the figures went even faster. Nate was suddenly alert, looking at Liam and wondering what was wrong. Then he quickly looked in the rear view mirror at Derek and Kaleigh, who were also wide eyed, Derek rubbing Kaleigh's back in reassurance. But what struck fear into him was the sight of the unspecified dark shadows racing after the firetruck he was in. Derek and Kaleigh already saw this just as Liam did and were holding each other to protect themselves. Despite the loud, roaring sound of the firetruck's engine, Liam did not care about attracting more corrupted, he only cared about losing these stalkers. But what made him confused was not being one hundred percent sure that these actually were corrupted, they seemed quicker, smarter, and more lethal, and he could tell all this about them just by seeing the way they moved, swiftly on their feet and jumping high to gain speed. Distracted by the thoughts of what could be chasing the crew, a loud thumping noise caught the side of the firetruck as Liam swerved into a ditch unexpectedly. All that could be heard was the screams of the CPG and the foot steps of what was struggling to capture them.
The burning aroma of tank fuel surrounded Kaleigh's nose, making her cough as she slowly squinted. She was laid on the ground on her side, cuts and bruises draping across her arms. She made haste and her survival training paid off at this moment, and she managed to use all her will power to find the strength she needed to get up off the ground. Her next instinct was to look at her surroundings and examine the environment for anything suspicious, meanwhile waking up in the middle of a ditch was not something that happens every day. The firetruck was hung over on it's side and on fire, but only tiny, sparkling flames came out of what used to be the engine. This was what terrified her the most, that was all there was to be seen. Derek, Liam, and Nate, were all gone, either dead or somewhere in the wilderness.. the thought of them being dead sent shivers down Kaleigh's spine. She wiped her sweaty forehead and started to tear up, but remained fearless and started walking to the busted firetruck. Kaleigh had never wanted to wake up from this horrid nightmare as much before in her entire life.
