Chapter 9

~~~~
Woods didn’t explain much about the area of the new school. All I heard from him was that it was kinda far away from where we were now. There was a huge forest near a small town or village (whichever way you’d like to call it) and my uncle was planning to build the boarding school there. This kinda made sense, since we’re all Soulers and we need to keep out identities a secret and all that shit. So, building a school there, we could shift whenever we liked and go for a run under the shelter of the trees. And which means that while we’re around each other, we could be in a form of how we were back in Siliken. Expose half of ourselves, I mean. Soulers like Sakura, Fara, Silence and I could extend our cat ears and tail without worries and Soulers like Aqua could have her wings out all the time.
Jack and I were heading towards the construction site just to help out but I frowned when I checked my phone.
 “20 minutes late…. Wow. And they said that girls took forever to dress up.” I murmured to myself.
I eyed a sleek back Mercedes that drove by as I stood near the street, outside my unit, waiting for Jack to show up as I shifted my weight from leg to leg.
“Hey there, Skye,” I cheeky voice called as I snapped my head towards the source, and immediately recognising the voice, I opened my mouth, ready to start yelling at him but instead, my jaw dropped and my left eye twitched.
From the car that drove by, Jack was leaning on it, a smug smirk tugging on his lips as his fingers played with the keys.
Jack chuckled, making me snap out of my daze as I started to eye him.
“Did you steal that?”
“Nope,” he replied innocently, flashing me a wide grin.
“But how come you’ve never mentioned-”
“We don’t have time for this, Skye,” my protest was cut short as he opened the passenger door for me.
I opened my mouth to say something again but he held up a finger and beckoned towards the car.
Leaning forward, I took one step at a time, still eyeing him until I reached the car. “I can open the door myself, thank you,” I huffed, still waiting for him to round the car to the other side.
But instead, he placed his chin on the door as his amused eyes watched me. Tilting his head, he smiled, telling me that he wasn’t going anywhere until I get in the car. “We don’t have time for this, Jack,” I rolled my eyes at him, frowning and trying to contain the urge to touch him.
“Exactly,” he laughed softly as I huffed again, murmuring, “I hate you,” and ducked down, entering the car. Jack closed the door and I watched him as he went around the car and slipped into the driver’s seat. As he started the car, I buckled my seatbelt and stared blankly at the windshield.
“So…” Jack started as he drummed his fingers against the steering wheel as we stopped at a traffic light. “You looked pretty nervous up there when you delivered the big news,”
“Yeah, I guess,” I whispered softly and turned my gaze towards the window.
“Any uhh… plans for tonight?” He tried to ask casually but I could hear the nervousness in his voice. Smiling to myself, I shook my head, “nah. Nothing at all, actually; you?”
“Same,”
After a few moments of (thoughtful, not awkward) silence, I turned my head to face him. “How’d you get this ride?”
