Chapter 25 and (Epilogue)

Her blood red gaze held my own and I sucked in a huge breath. She was still wriggling until one of the Amnestiants struck her in the head. Spring went limp and I let out a hiss, my eyes holding the promise of death towards the creature who struck her.

“You don’t have much time,” the king snickered as he ran his fingers through her silky hair.

“Don’t. Touch her.” I snarled. His smirk widened but he stopped, waving his hands towards the bottom of the staircase, arching an eyebrow.

I opened my mouth to say something but stopped when a shadow whipped past, behind the king. He looked behind, narrowing his eyes before looking down at me. His smirk disappeared and he nodded towards the Amnestians who held Daniel captive. The tail was removed from his throat before he was heaved back towards the room.

I clenched my fists before flicking it up, a swarm of gray mist circling my hand. The outline of a scythe appeared and I charged for the staircase, heading towards the king.

The window behind him smashed open as Fara and Sakura stormed in, the same time I was summoning the scythe. Fara flew down the stair case, her guns blazing as her bullets got direct headshots onto the creatures that threw Daniel down to attack Fara.

Sakura had her primary weapon, the katana as she went straight for the king who dodged her blades smoothly. I, on the other hand, sprinted towards Spring, slicing the head off the first Amnestian before glaring at the other one who stroke her. I let out a hiss and pierced my temporary scythe through his head, cutting it in half, “I told you not to touch her,”

It gagged, green blood hacking out from its mouth before it took its final breath.

My scythe fell to the floor as I scrambled over to my sister, slipping my hand under her head. “Spring…?”

I patted her cheek and she stirred. The feeling of relief washed through me as I hugged her tighter, resting my face against hers. Uncontrollably, my tears started flowing down unaware of all that is around me; my only concern was my sister. And she was alive. Her breathing was ragged and heavy… but at least she was breathing…. Right?

The hot tears just wouldn’t stop flowing down as I sucked in breath after breath. A frail hand touched my head and all emotions nearly exploded, “I thought I-I-I-I lost… y-yo-you,” I managed through my heavy breaths. My head was pounding and I could barely breathe. Everything just seemed blurry to me. I couldn’t even think straight.

“You can’t lose something that is ever so important to you,” came the soft, gentle reply. I lifted my head to look into her amber orbs, my lips parting into a smile but tears still flowed freely. My vision was still blurry and I could barely make out her features but her eyes drew me in.  Never in 9 years, have I ever forgotten what they looked like. And even now, at this moment, they still held the same gentle kindness in them, the same generosity and the urge to help those in need. But what was different this time was that it was flooded with emotions. Any Souler could easily tell that Spring had been through hell; ‘cause her eyes told it all. Her eyes are what told her story.
