Chapter 8

~~Skye’s POV~~

As Jack and I were walking towards Wood’s office, we started a conversation about life. He told me about his family members and how he got here and how close he was to punch a 10 year old kid on the plane. I laughed as he knitted his eyebrows together as he told me about his school life back in Texas. Smiling to myself inwardly, I regretted not giving him a chance sooner. Perhaps I just got scared when I realised that he was my mate. It’s not something that one experiences every day. And as for the hisses and snarls, maybe I was just scared that he would use me like how he used the others.

Funny, how open he was and I felt like I had to do the same. Tell him about my life, I mean.

“Aren’t you gonna knock?” Jack asked and knitted his eyebrows together as we arrived at Wood’s office and I placed my hands on Wood’s wooden office doors.

“Knock?” I laughed. What century was he living in? Jack shrugged as I applied force to my hands, making the doors push inwards.

“I’m here~!” I sing-sang as I entered the office to see Red standing there, bouncing excitedly.

“… Is that clear, Red?” Woods asked Red who was jumping up and down excitedly next to me.

“Clear ‘bout whut?” I asked as I entered the office and shifted my weight on my right leg.

“Don’t you ever knock, Skylar? I’m sure your parents taught you better,” Woods converted his gaze and his face fell. I shrugged and crossed my arms over my chest.

“So do you know what do to?” he asked her.

Red nodded her head after giving me a small nod of her head, meaning ‘hi’, trying to maintain her excitement, she repeated her quest to Woods “find the Amnestian in the school around the area and eliminate him. Neither hesitation nor mercy no matter what happens. Once the quest is complete, come back to Southern Brooks.”

Woods nodded and Red shot me a smile before running out of his office.

“Speak about quests,” Woods turned to me and stopped when he saw Jack next to me.

Arching an eyebrow, he pointed a longer finger at him and I smiled softly, “he’s with me,”

Woods nodded and continued before Jack cut him off, “sir. You have Red a quest to eliminate someone whom came from Amnestia. What if she…” he gulped, “failed? And he found out where we are?”

“I’ll get to that, Jack!” Woods snapped, clearly annoyed but he cleared his throat and maintained his composure, “It seems like the human world is experiencing problems. And they seem to be offering a lot of money just to run some errands for them. I have photo copied some flyers and I will need your help to address the school and post them on the quest board,”

“Quest board?” Jack repeated.

Woods nodded his head and continued, “I’ve made a new board and that’s where the quests will be pasted. Those who wish to get an income will accept the quests. Be warned that some quests might cause death.”

“If it causes death, what’s the use of even having them?” I asked and Woods sighed, “I believe that this is where Red’s quest connects with us.

“If she fails, -which I’m sure she won’t- we will need some money to build a new school somewhere safe. I have enough funding for the school now. But we need resources.”

I frowned as I felt my uncle’s pressure and his safety for the school. He might not be fully from Silken as he left the planet at the age of 15, but I felt the connection and love he had for his students and for his family.

“I understand, sir,” I nodded my head and softy smiled. “But why can’t you ask the student council?”

“They have to travel to another country for something that Mr White called an ‘emergency’. I believe that they will be leaving in the next few hours.”

My heart sank at the thought of Fara leaving the school (and me) for a few days but I tried to cheer up at the fact that Aqua, Silence, Shaia and Sakura would still be there.

“So, it’s clear then. We’ll address the school and post the flyers on the board.” Jack smiled at me and I returned it.

“Thank you,” Woods smiled at us and dismissed us with a flick of his hand.

“Sir?” Jack turned around as we were about to leave the office and Woods looked up from his paperwork.

“Skye and I’d love to help with the construction of the new school… if that’s okay with you,”

“Wha-” my eyes widened and I protested but Jack clamped a hand over my mouth.

Woods nodded his head with a small smile, “the more people there are, the faster the boarding school will be complete,”

Wait… what…?
