Chapter 5- I'm sure you need help

Chapter 5

~~Skye’s POV~~

“Thanks for the dinner, Dan. I had a great time,” I smiled and gave him a small peck on his cheek. “I’ll see ya at school tomorrow,”

He smiled a goofy grin which made me chuckled softly and I opened the door to my apartment and gave him a small wave over my shoulder before closing the door with small click behind me.

“Yesh!!” He said pretty loudly and his footsteps disappeared down the hallway. 

After changing, I made myself a cup of coffee and headed out towards my balcony, watching the starts twinkle in the midnight sky. Leaning against the railing, I took a small sip.

“Hey,” came a soft voice so unexpectedly, I choked and started coughing profusely. A small chuckle came from the other side of the ally.

“You okay?” he asked softy.

I nodded my head, still coughing. After taking a few breaths, I looked at Jack, the moonlight shining into his amused eyes.

“Shut up,” I scolded but also started laughing at my misfortune. “Funny,” he said, cocking his head, “you’ve always been alert. What happened tonight?”

“Oh nothing. I just went out with someone,” I said softly and looked into his eyes, and once those words escaped my lips, his eyes darkened and he frowned.

“You’re seeing someone?” He said ever so softly, asI searched his face for his sudden change of attitude. But his face was expressionless, just his dull green eyes begging for me to shake my head.

“I mean, it’s nothing serious. I mean, it just started, you know…?” I trailed off, regretting the fact that I ever said that. “Remember he just moved in? Wouldn’t you want to help him with his house?” My cat whispered. “When did I ever ask you to speak up?” I asked her

“So, is that a ‘no, I don’t want to help my future mate’ or ‘no, I do want to help but I’d prefer to stay away’?”

“It’s neither. But I did feel bad for telling him that I’m going out with someone… Maybe I should help. Watcha think?” I asked but hissed in frustration when she didn’t answer. “Answer me!” I snarled.

“I thought you liked it when I was quiet,”

“Not when I’m asking you a question. Stop playing hot and cold with me,”

“Well, start admitting that Jack is your mate!”

“Over my dead body. No distractions, remember? Try to relive the moment you saw Spring getting dragged away. Relive the moment when mom and dad died. Still have time for a mate?”

 People think that I’m able to shut my inner animal up but the fact is that, I don’t want her to shut up. I want her to help me through all the things that I’m going through but she’s never there when I needed her. She always stays quiet and she only comes up when she knows that I’m having a hard decision.

“Skye… you okay?” Jack asked, concern filling his voice.

I wonder why you care so much, Jack. But… even though I’ve told myself I’d stay away from you, I guess I could help you out… “Yeah, I’m fine. But umm… you just moved in recently, am I right?”

I continued when he nodded his head, “great! I was wondering if I could help you after school tomorrow. You know, unpack and stuff,” I smiled and his eyes immediately brightened up and he nodded his head.
