Chapter 17

  ~~Skye’s POV~~

“Shift!” Daniel commanded, not leaving me room to argue and immediately, a swirl of gray mist engulfed me. I stared blankly at the towering Daniel and he quickly shifted into his lynx, his magnificent ice blue eyes staring insentiently at me. I tilted my head slightly and Daniel twitched his whiskers and his ears flickered and I nodded my head, slightly understanding his language.

With another mist, I shifted into what he wanted me to be, a snow lynx. I stared into his eyes and they darkened a little and he pulled his lips back into what looked like a smirk. “Not bad for a lynx,” he smirked and I flinched a little.

“Calm down, we’re the same breed; we can both understand each other very well,” he reassure me and I nodded. “I don’t have time for this, Daniel. They need me back,” my voice was desperate, causing Daniel to shrink a little, “I just needed you as a lynx so that we could communicate properly,” he looked up at the crack, “we don’t have time to squeeze back into the hole so we’ll make one. I need you to shift into a cougar and claw you way up,” he beckoned to the rocks against the walls and I followed his gaze, “once you’ve clawed the hole, I’ll shift into a snow owl and you, into your cat so that I can carry you. With that, we’ll be able to make it back to school in no time flat,”

I nodded my head, knowing that I had to trust Daniel.

“Go,” he commanded and I shifted into a cougar and bolted onto the rocks, flinging my way from one to another before I reached the last rock. Bunching up my muscles, I pounced, my nails caught between the cracks and I raked it down, a huge piece of the cave coming down with me. Flicking my tail and placing all of my trust in Daniel, I shifted into my cat.

Shit…I’m not gonna make it

Next thing I knew, talons gripped my pelt lightly as Daniel learned his lesson from the mock battle. He slipped past the crack that I had created, slightly tilting this body and as we burst through the small cave, a screech escaped him as we both soared past the trees, heading back to school.

---

“Are you comfortable?” Daniel’s voice echoed, making it hard for me to understand but I seemed to have managed. I wriggled a little in his grip, giving him an answer. He tilted his body as we slipped through two narrows trees. “Alright, trust me on this,” his voice bounced off and I scrunched up my nose at that. Why was it so hard to just communicate properly?

A yowl escaped me as I couldn’t feel his talons around my pelt and I felt the wing brush against my fur roughly. I landed with a small ‘oof’ on soft feathers which flinched a little when I dug my nails into it, balancing myself. I flattened my ears as wind brushed past them, causing an annoying hissing sound in it. My grip loosened a little when I noticed the school a small distance away. I braced myself on Daniel’s back, balancing my body by bringing my right hind leg a little further from my body and my left front paw in front. Pressing myself lower against his body so that I won’t fall down, my whiskers twitched as the school was a good 10 feet away.

---

I pounced off his back and burst through the door, shifting mid-air. I rushed down the halls, almost slipping at certain turns. I followed the slight sound of hissing and snarling and ran to the main corridor, Daniel hot on my heels. I couldn’t really see who were delivering the blows as there was a massive circle surround them but I knew that it clearly involved my friends. Pushing people aside with slight snarls, I glared at the people in the centre.

“What’s happening?” My voice was puzzled as I looked at Sakura and Fara, my gaze flickering towards the other with short glances. My confusion doubled as my eyes landed on Abigail’s hand, linked through Leo’s. And again, I converted my gaze towards Sakura who looked away, suddenly on the verge of tears. I took a step forwards but someone stopped me by snarling. My attention snapped towards that person, a snarl playing on my lips.
