Chapter 14

~~Skye’s POV~~

I blinked and my eyes adjusted towards the bright light that shone into my eyes. A soft voice was calling my name and no matter how much I strained to hear it, it would always get softer and softer. Out of curiosity, I headed towards the bright light, shielding my eyes with my hand.

Upon reaching it, I stretched out my hand to touch it but I made contact with absolutely nothing. Frowning, I took a step forward. That was when I felt the world falling beneath me. I opened my mouth to scream but not a single sound came out as I felt myself falling… and falling.

I hit the floor with a thump, arching my back in pain as I grinded my teeth. I shot my eyes open, greeted with blood stained skies and not a single star that sparkled in the midnight sky. Instead, the pale violet moon shone dimly over the small houses as I sat up, rubbing my forehead.  Standing up properly, I staggered along the all-too-familiar streets as my hand clutched my other shoulder that felt a little displaced after my fall.

I grinded my teeth as I stopped in front of a two storied cream colored house, hesitating if I should push open the doors or not. Instead, I heard laughing coming from the corner of the street, shooting alarm through me. I ran towards the shadows and pressed my back against the walls, keeping my breathing as still as possible as two men walked down the streets, rifles draped over their shoulders. I bared my teeth at the sight of them, wanting to attack at that moment but I stayed silent as I took them in.

Their long devilish tail trailed behind them as they were clothed in dark green, almost like the army soldiers but a shade darker. One hand held onto their rifles while the other dangled alongside them as a single sharp and pointy blade extended from their palms.

I watched them as they disappeared down the street, laughing. My eyes narrowed as I headed towards the creamy house again. Clenching my jaw, I gently pushed the handle as the wooden and slightly termite bitten door opened with a small squeak. Overpowering but very faint scents trailed into my nostrils, making tears well up in my eyes.

I looked around the huge living room, taking in everything as cobwebs gathered in corners and the pale tiles were dusty and as the violet moonlight shone through uncleaned windows. Memories flashed into my mind as I saw faint images of my family crowed in a corner, under a huge green Christmas tree with my sister and I unwrapped presents, laughing and as my parents stood behind us, a smile plastered on their faint lips. I walked towards the centre of the living room, trailing my fingers gently against the old and peeling wallpapers.

The laughs slowly faded away and so did the image, to be replaced by screaming and swearing as I reluctantly looked back, a tear fell down my cheek as I remembered that image that was crystal clear in my mind.

Her brown locks, blazing red eyes, staring at me in regret and sorrow as I looked away, my gaze converted towards my parents, lying unconsciously on the floor, with lockets around their necks, threatening to take their animals and abilities away.

I stayed silent as soft words escaped my sister’s lips, “I’m sorry,”

I fell to my knees, tears flowing down non-stop and I grinded my teeth in pain murmuring, “No, no, no, no, no, no!”

I jolted out of bed, but my head collided with someone else’s with a mighty ‘clonk!’. I fell back into my bed again, rubbing my head in pain as my forehead was drenched in sweat. Opening one eye, Daniel looked back at me, his ice blue eyes blurred with worry and concern as he rubbed his forehead as well.

“You okay, kid?” He sat back and stopped hovering above me. I slowly nodded my head and flinched as a loud boom was heard outside my window.

I sat up on bed and looked outside the window. Transparent droplets of water splashed themselves against the window as the night was pitch black, only guided by the pale moonlight.
