Mai's P.O.V
"Excuse me, but who said I was returning to Japan?" I asked, completely filled with anger. "I never said anything about Japan, so why assume I'm returning?"
Ayako and Monk looked at me shocked, "Wait, why don't you want to return to Japan? That's where your real home is, right?" Ayako asked, "Don't you miss your friends and everything? What about your parents, have you gone to their graves?"
I gulped, "NO, I haven't I was too busy here. I was being put to study everyday to grow and inherit this company." I said, gritting my teeth in anger. I couldn't believe my answer, I hated myself for that during these two years.
I watched as Monk opened his mouth to reply when someone suddenly screamed. I turned my back, and ran towards the scream on instinct. I started to stumble when I reached my destination. There was another writing it read, "COME HOME MAI, YOU HAVE TO COME BACK NOW OR ELSE ALL YOUR LOVE ONES WILL DIE!!" I think it was in blood. I looked on the floor expecting a bloody mess, instead all I saw was an unconscious female worker.
I thought, 'Where did the blood come from, I wonder?' I watched as the whole SPR gang came. "Well, I'm gonna go check something real quick." I stated. I started to walk away, but then the narcissist stopped me.
"Mai, I read something about this vault with these expensive toys. I'm assuming your checking on that vault, show it to us as well." Naru said. I turned silent. He cocked an eyebrow at my quietness. "Well, are you going to show us or not?" He asked.
My cheeks flared with redness. "Dumb, narcissistic, impatient Naru, what else is there, oh yeah, a smarta-" I stopped since Naru glared at me "Sorry," I mumbled, "Yeah, I'll show the vault. It's this way." I said. Stomping my way over towards the vault.
Naru just kept his face emotionless. He suddenly scowled when I stopped. "Why did you stop walking? We have to go somewhere you know?"
I gulped, "What time is it?" I asked, my whole body began to shake.
The whole SPR group looked at me weirdly. "It's 10:23 a.m., why do you ask?" Lin replied. "Do you have to go somewhere, a meeting perhaps?" He asked, looking at his watch.
My eyes widened in fear. "Oh no..." I heard the foot steps of a beast down the hall. I turned my head quickly, only to face with the monster himself. "Good morning Michael, sorry I didn't make it to breakfast twenty three minutes ago." I stated. "I hope you could forgive me, I didn't mean to miss it."
He sighed with an angry sound. He put his hand on my head and rubbed it. "It's alright Mai, just don't miss it next time. You know I don't like it when you're late to breakfast." My adopted cousin replied.
My aunt and uncle adopted him when I was four, he was two at the time. We were the best of friends until they had to move to the States. I thought about the "accident" again. "Sorry, I know, it's been a while anyway." I said, trying to cover my inner sadness with a small smile.
Naru just changed his scowl to a frown. "Mai, who is this friend of yours?" He asked.
I took that frown as a sign of jealousy. I wanted to laugh, but I was sure everyone would be weird-ed out. I grinned, "This my friends," I started, pointing at Michael like he was a toy. "Is my cousin Michael, he's only seventeen years old." I stated.
Monk became anger, for what reason. I don't know. "You never told us about your cousin!" Well, now you know. "First your aunt, then your cousin, what's next?!" He asked.
"Well I do have another cousin who lives in Canada that has a successful clothing company." I answered. "Why do you ask?" I asked, trying to make fun of him. "I'm just messing with you." I said noticing the irritated look on his face. "But I'm not lying about my cousin in Canada."
Ayako stopped the conversation with a two questions. "Wait, if you have a cousin who's the son of your aunt, then why doesn't he inherit the company? Also, why doesn't your other cousin, the one in Canada inherit the company?"
Michael and I gulped, "Well, um... It's because... Um..." I started.
"It's because Mai is the eldest out of all of her cousins, making her the most responsible." Someone suddenly said. I was about to say thanks to the person who answered for me, until I saw who it was. "Well Mai, are you ready to study, you have an important test later." She said. It was my aunt, I kinda still hope she doesn't talk about the deal I had with her.
I looked to the side, not wanting to face anyone. "Yeah, I'm more responsible, that's the reason why." I said. I made a fake cough, trying to change the subject. "If you may excuse me, I'm going to show the vault to SPR, if that's alright with you Aunt Asami." She nodded her head. "Then we'll be on our way."
"Mai..." Michael started. "Are you alright?" He asked.
I managed to show a smile. "I'm fine, there's no need to worry." I lied. I looked at the time. "I'll study later auntie, I promise." I said, reassuring her.
She nodded her head again. "Very well, then don't be late to the meeting at 8 p.m." She stated, already walking away.
I nodded, "Of course I wouldn't forget, you always remind me." I said, "Now then, why don't I show you the vault." I walked towards the vault, starting to block out everyone's voices. I was already deep in my thoughts anyway.
Now here we are, in front of the vault. It was kinda big for everything in it. "Here's the vault, where every old, yet expensive toys go. People always wanted to keep these rare antique toys, but they gave it us so no one would try to rob them so they could sell it." I said, explaining the whole vault situation.
"Are you allowed to open it?" Masako asked. I nodded.
Then Naru entered the conversation. "Open it, we want to investigate it."
I opened the vault.
