Mai's P.O.V

I stuck my tongue out at them. "You guys are so slow," I said. I looked at Mary, "How are you even in track?"

Mary put her hands on her knee caps and began to breath hard. "Don't ask me, ask my mother."

James laughed at that, "Why ask your mom, you are the one who tried out for the team?"

Mary frowned, "I thought you all knew that mom forced them to have me join no matter how bad I was." Mary sat on the sand. "I don't really like track, it's just that my grandmother thought I wasn't really doing anything productive and thought I was lazy."

I sat down with her and hugged her tightly. "It's okay, we're all lazy at one point." I looked at Mason and smirked. "Especially Mason, he's the laziest person in the world."

"Hey," the lazy man said. "I'm not that lazy, I just have better things to do." He looked to the bathrooms. "Now if you'll excuse me, I'm going to change into my bathing suit."

Abbey laughed, "You aren't wearing it already?" She covered her mouth with her sweater's sleeve. It reminded me of Masako with her kimono. "You do know that you were supposed to put it on when you were at home so we wouldn't have to wait longer."

Mason shook his head, "I won't take that long, either way, you could go swimming anyway. Just don't forget that I'm here."

We nodded then left him. James was practically running like a kid down towards the ocean.

I smiled at how he was being adorable. I stopped walking when I heard a ringing sound. The rest of the group looked at my bag. I opened it and saw that it was my phone. I read who it was; it was Lin. I gestured to my friends that I was going to answer the call.

They just left me and started to set up our chairs.

I answered the phone, "Hello, it's Mai."

"Mai, Naru wanted me to tell you that we found something out about the ghost."

I smiled and asked, "What is it that you found out?"

"We found out that the so call blood was actually red paint," he answered.

I grinned, "I knew there was something fishy about the words. Anyway what about the paint?"

"Naru said that ghost wouldn't hurt anyone ever since we questioned the worker who was in the scene of the accident. She said that she fell asleep at the factory after accidentally taking her sleeping medicine."

I put two and two together. "So the ghost is only trying to harm or target me?"

"Yes, Naru suspects that the ghost is someone you knew in the past. He wants you to think about who it might be and that you tell him when you come back."

I wondered who it might be, but decided to think about it tomorrow. "Of course, I'll do it right away," I answered. "Goodb-" I got cut off.

"Don't leave yet! You didn't say hi to all of us yet," someone whined.

I sighed in annoyance, "Hi Yasu, the rest of the gang, I hope you enjoyed the lunch. Now I have to go, my friends are wondering why I'm taking long. Bye." I hung up the phone with everyone telling me to not hang up until I said hi to Naru.

Trevor walked up to me when he saw me putting my phone back in my bag. "Hey Mai, are you ready to go swimming?"

I nodded and walked with him to where they set up the chairs and umbrella. "Mai, do you want to get some ice cream?" Mary pointed towards the ice cream stand.

I shrugged and looked at the flavors of ice cream they had. "Sure, I don't see why not." We walked to the stand and ordered. Mary had mint chocolate chip while I had chocolate. "It's good," I said, "we should get more when we finish."

Mary nodded and grinned at me. "Do you know where Anthony is though?"

I shook my head no. "I called him in the car. He said he's coming here soon since he has a shift to finish."

"Alright then, what do you want to do first now that we're here?"

James finally decided to come towards our spot and yelled, "SWIMMING!!"

Mary's grin faded away and became fear. "NO!"

Trevor slammed his hand on her back, but not to hard. "Come on Mary, you're not going to die."

Mary hit his arm and ran behind me. "I could die, I almost did when I was 12."

I held Mary in a protective way. "It's okay," I reassured her. "Do you want me to punch them?"

She nodded and whispered in my ear. "Don't punch them too hard." I smiled at her request.

I walked up to the two boys, and punched them. "Ow," they said synchronicity. "She has to start swimming again."

I glared at them, "Did you forget what happened to her when she was 12? Her father drowned trying to save her."

They nodded, "We know, it's just that she needs to fight her fear of the ocean, or also known as thalassophobia. You know, she also has arachnophobia." The two boys looked at each other. "We should totally help her overcome her fears."

I hit them again, "Don't change the subject to overcoming fears! Now then, if you want her to go swimming again, you have to give me a good reason and then I'll help you put her in the ocean."

Me saying that made Mary get caught off guard. "Wait, what-"

"It's because she's great swimming and we're at a beach! She should try and enjoy it. Also, that was the past, an accident," Mason exclaimed. "You can't disagree with logic!"

I thought about Mason's statement and asked Abbey for her opinion. "Personally, I would think Mary should swim again. Friend-wise, I wouldn't agree with her swimming if she doesn't want to try again." I agreed and made my decision.

I felt mean today, "Mary, you are going to try swimming again even though you are scared of the ocean." Mary's mouth opened, clearly shocked at what I said.

I saw someone running towards us. "Hey guys, did I miss anything?" It was Anthony.

Mary growled at him, "You have no idea."

Me: Hey guys, I finished this earlier than I thought! I hope you're proud of me. I'm sorry about not saying Happy Holidays sooner. I wanted to give you guys a holiday special last Friday, but it turned out to be terrible and I was second guessing on publishing it. Just in case; I have another excuse. I actually thought of that idea during last week. Now that that's over, please give it up for the character, Mai!
