“The song we had originally chosen was ‘Call Me Maybe’. We were thinking of doing a cool version of it or something.” Mary said with a smile plastered across her face. “What do you think?”

Not that the song wasn’t catchy, but it was slightly annoying after a while. I’ve heard it on the radio over and over again. I was just tired of hearing it. Great, I was in the first few seconds of rehearsal and I already disagreed with them.

“Well, that’s a great song to do,” I lied, “but the harmonies for that song would be a bit difficult to make up.” It sounded like a reasonable problem, so I went along with my words.

“True.” Mary’s smile slowly disappeared.

“What about a song by Little Mix?” I recommended. Ashley and Mary just looked at me with puzzled faces. “You’ve never heard of Little Mix?” I asked. They each shook their heads. Oh my God. “Ok, well they are this insanely good girl group.” I explained.

“I didn’t even know that there were still girl groups.” I heard Ashley mutter.

I used the laptop sitting in front of us. I typed quickly into YouTube. ‘Wings’ started to play loudly on the speakers. I was softly singing along and enjoying myself. Ashley and Mary seemed to like the song. They bobbed their heads, so that was a good sign.

As the song ended, I asked their opinions. They agreed that it was a much better song choice and it would be more fun to do.

Of course it would be more fun. It’s Little Mix.

I established that before we can work on harmonies, they needed to learn the words. They were struggling with memorization and rhythm, but it would soon come together.

At around 5 o’clock, my phone rang. I picked it up.

“Honey, when are you coming home? Dinner is going to be ready any minute.” My mom told me on the other line of the phone.

“Alright, I’ll be home in a few minutes.” I said.

“See you soon. I love you.” My mom said.

“I love you, too. Bye.” I hung up the phone. “Guys, I have to go right now.” I said, but I got no reply. They were too busy in the song. “I’m leaving.” I raised my voice.

“Ok, see you tomorrow.” Ashley smiled.

I escorted myself out of her house. The sun was still shining brightly. That was one of the reasons why spring was one of my favorite seasons. I liked daylight.

I walked passed my favorite restaurant again, and all the memories of a few hours ago rushed back. I saw that cute guy with the blue eyes and the accent. I smiled at the thought of him. Hopefully I’d see him again.

I continued walking for five or ten more minutes before I was at the doorstep to my house. I walked in and the smell of delicious food filled the air. Smelt like steak.

I announced my presence to my parents and sat down at the table, waiting for the food to be completed.

As dinner was served, I told my parents about my day and how I was going to audition for the talent show.

“That’s fantastic!” My dad exclaimed.

“I’m so glad you built the confidence to do this.” My mom smiled.

“Yeah, thanks!” I said.

I told them that there were other people doing it with me, and they weren’t as excited about that part. They wanted me to have my superstar moment, but they were still ecstatic I was auditioning at all. The last few years, I completely put it aside and I always watched the show instead of performing. It was going to change this year.
