I unlocked my locker and placed all my books in it. It was my free period, and Ashley and Mary agreed to a rehearsal in the music room. I waited a minute for Hailey to come. Eventually, she walked by, but didn’t stop. She kept walking.

“Hailey?” I called after her. She didn’t turn around. I walked up behind her and tapped her shoulder. “You alright?” I asked.

“Don’t you have a practice right now or whatever?” Hailey muttered.

Her attitude was strange. She was usually peppy. “Yeah, but you said you were coming this time. Remember?” I asked.

“I’m not.” Hailey spat without ever facing me.

That was disrespectful. “What is your problem?” I asked.

“Ha! My problem! You should really be careful, Sophia.” Hailey snapped. “Just go to your damn rehearsal! Oh, and don’t talk to me unless you apologize.” Hailey walked away.

Apologize? Apologize for what? I ran through the halls to the empty music room.  I almost tripped over my own feet.

“Hello?” I called out for someone to answer. “Ashley? Mary?” No one was responding. “Is anyone here?”

“You’re late.” Mary mumbled while walking in from the other door. “You were supposed to be here 10 minutes ago.”

“Sorry, I got held up in the hallway.” I admitted.

“I’m sure you did.” Mary muttered.

“Where’s Ashley?” I asked.

“In the bathroom. She’ll be back in a minute.” Mary said.

I couldn’t deal with her attitude anymore. “What is your problem? What did I do?” I asked trying to make eye-contact, but she wouldn’t look at me.

“Like you don’t know? You are unbelievable.” Mary raised her voice.

“I don’t know what I did. If you and everyone else are so messed up about it, I’d like to know what the hell I did!” I exclaimed.

“Oh my God.” Mary whispered. “You don’t get it! Why are you so oblivious?” Mary screamed.

“Because maybe I don’t know what happened?”

“How could you not know? It’s under your name! You made it!” Mary screamed.

“What are you even talking about?” I shouted back.

Mary rolled her eyes and sat down in a chair. Ashley walked into the room and glared at me. The only words she said were “Oh. Hi.”

“What did I do?” I practically shouted. I don’t recall doing anything that could potentially hurt someone’s feelings. This was ridiculous.

“Don’t be such a fucking bitch!” Mary screamed. Ashley immediately looked at her as if she were going to kill her.

Wow. That hurt a lot, but I wasn’t going to let my pain show. “Excuse me?” I tried to sound intimidating while taking a step towards them both.

“She didn’t say what you think.” Ashley defended while taking a step away from me. She looked like she was panicking.

“It sounded like a lot of nasty words.” I replied.

“Whatever.” Mary mumbled.

“We have to rehearse! No matter how mad we are at each other.” Ashley directed.

“Fine.” I agreed. I was pissed off because no one was telling me what I had done wrong. I know for a fact I didn’t do anything, so the fact everyone was acting this way just confused me.
