Considering that Jack and I were let back into the talent show, we had some work to do. Tomorrow night was the talent show. Already. I had a whole bunch of prepping to do with Jack today and tomorrow. We were mostly great, though.
I walked through the hallways at school until I was stopped to the sound of my phone ringing. It was just a text message from Louis.

It was cute. We’ve spoken just as much as we used to before the night at his house. We didn’t talk much about it because I always felt uncomfortable when he brought it up. He agreed to not bring it up unless I said something about it.
That night was always something to remember for all my life. It was really special and sweet. He was so gentle and I really did love him. I was glad my first time was spent with him and not anyone else.
I texted him back.
Hey! You shouldn’t text me now! I’m in school and could get in trouble ;)
He responded a few seconds later.
Sorry! I was just thinking about you x
I was about to type my response when I saw Jack walking towards me. We had a free period and were going to rehearse. I quickly replied.
You’re too sweet! I think about you too but I have to goo…see you later J
Louis then typed up a ‘bye’.
“Hey, you ready?” Jack asked.
“Yup!” I smiled while putting my phone away.
We made our way into the currently empty music room. Jack took out his guitar and we ran through the song once or twice. We sounded performance ready.
“That sounds fantastic!” He sounded proud.
“It does!” I agreed.
There was a short silence before he started to talk again.
“How exactly did you convince Mr. Payne to let us perform?”
He mustn’t have heard.
“The whole bullying thing that happened, it’s because of that.” I quietly answered.
“Oh.” He said. “I’m really sorry that all that happened to you, by the way.”
He was too nice sometimes. “No, don’t be. It wasn’t your fault. It’s all over now.” I smiled.
“Yeah, you’re okay and everything now, right?”
I nodded. “I’m actually really great.”
“That’s good.” He paused for a short while. “Are you still dating that older guy?”
I found it strange that he would ask about Louis like that.
“Yeah, I am.”
Jack looked down at his feet. “Yeah, that’s what I thought.”
He seemed upset. Now everything was starting to become a little awkward again. Silence was filling the room. I didn’t know what to say.
“So are you excited for the show tomorrow?” I asked trying to change the topic.
Jack continued to look down at his feet. He didn’t say a word.
“Jack?” I wondered if he was paying attention.
He finally looked up. “What’s so special about him?” He quietly asked.
“What?”
“The older guy. Why do you like him so much?” Jack asked.
That’s what was bothering him. I didn’t want to talk about it with him, though. “Can we talk about something else please?” I begged.
“Sure, I’m just curious as to why you chose him.”
“That’s a bit personal and I think it’s better for our friendship if we didn’t talk about it.” I raised my voice in the end, sounding a bit harsher than intended.
“Right. Our friendship. That’s all we’ll ever have isn’t it? Just a friendship.” Jack seemed to be talking to himself. He was angry, but mostly sad.
“I’m sorry about all that’s happened…” I said remembering the kiss that we shared. I guess he was still upset about it.
“Can you look at me straight in the eyes and tell me that you’ve never had feelings for me? Not even a little bit?” He said. That was an unexpected question.
“Jack, we need to get passed this…”
“You didn’t answer the question. Answer me.” He demanded.
I looked at him in the eyes. “Why? Why does any of this matter? Jack, we’re friends. We’re just friends having a good time with music. I’m in a relationship. It’s rude of you to do this. I understand you feel bad, and I’m sorry about that. It’s my fault, but you need to move on!”
“But I’m in love with you!” He shouted and started pacing around the room. “Ever since I first saw you, I thought you were the most beautiful girl! Then, I hear you sing and you have the voice of an angel! Not only that, but you are the sweetest, funniest, and cutest girl I have ever met, so moving on is hard, Sophia! It kills me to see you with that guy with the tattoos because he’s not me! He doesn’t even seem to try while I’m here doing everything for your attention, but it’ll never be me! Never! I’ll never be the one to make you smile and light up your life. It will always be him.”
I was speechless. “I-I’m” I couldn’t bring words together, so I just sat there staring at him let out his feelings. I can’t say I never thought he wasn’t hot or sweet or talented. I used to have feelings for him, but it’s different with Louis. Louis is on a whole other level. I don’t feel this way about Jack now, and he knows it.
Jack’s face was red. Not in anger, but in embarrassment. It was as if his little rant was an accident. He ran his fingers through his hair before speaking.
“I need to go. I’ll see you later.” Jack quickly said while packing up his guitar and fleeing the room.
I still sat there in shock. I knew he liked me, but I didn’t know to what extent. That was a lot more than expected and I didn’t know how to deal with this. I felt sorry that I didn’t love him the way he loved me. I hated to see people hurting because of me.
Is this something to tell Louis about? I don’t know how he’ll react. I don’t even know how to react. Honesty is the best policy. I don’t want to ruin what Louis and I have by not telling him that the guy that I’m singing with in the talent show and spending all this time with is in love with me. I’ll tell him when the time is right. I know for a fact that he won’t like the idea, but it must get done. Bad things will happen if I don’t tell him. I know that for sure.
