she came into the shop around two in the afternoon, when the work day was feeling rather dull. other than the fact that wonwoo was in charge of the cash register, the girl had grabbed his attention.
she wore her bright red and orange streaked hair in a messy bun, as if she couldn't be bothered to tie her hair properly. strands of hair fell in front of her face, but what irked him was the bright green mark just above her left eye. the oversized shirt she wore was full of different colored brush strokes and wonwoo wondered if she bought the shirt like that or it had been her doing.
"good afternoon!" mingyu welcomed, jabbing wonwoo in the stomach when the he failed to greet the customer. the latter rubbed at the spot he was hit, his face scrunching into a scowl for a second before he could compose himself. the girl didn't seem to notice the interaction between them as she looked up at the menu board.
one of the customers sitting at the tables had called for a waiter and, being the only other employee, mingyu headed over. that left wonwoo at the counter with the girl.
her gaze moved from the board to wonwoo, frowning when he didn't respond. "excuse me," she muttered to get his attention.
wonwoo realized his action and apologized. "sorry," he said, "you, uh, you have something on your face."
the girl's eyebrows scrunch in confusion as wonwoo gestured at the paint that stained the skin on her forehead. she lifted her hand up, wiping at the spot. she checked her hand and realization spread across her features. she rubbed at the paint with the back of her hand until wonwoo handed her tissue paper. "thank you," she muttered as she rubbed off the green color. he just nodded in response.
"so, uh, one americano, please," she said as she stuffed the used tissue paper into her pocket, bringing out a couple of bills as her hand slid out of the pocket. wonwoo punched her order in the register, offering for her to try one of the pastries. she shook her head and handed him the amount that he had told her. he handed her the receipt before preparing her drink.
wonwoo frowned as he picked out the things he needed to make the drink. mingyu was better at this than he was, hence why he was in charge of the cash register. "this is for to go, right?" he asked for confirmation and she nodded. "you can take a seat first," he suggested. she shook her head.
"i'm okay standing up," she replied.
he raised an eyebrow. "are you sure?"
she reassured him with a firm nod. "it doesn't take too long to make coffee, right?"
he shook his head, a soft smile appearing on his lips when he noticed her own smile. "it won't take long," he replied as he made her drink.
wonwoo caught mingyu standing by one of the tables, looking over at him as he supposedly cleaned the table. when he realized that wonwoo noticed him, mingyu gave a wave and a bright smile in his direction.
wonwoo finished making the drink and handed the product to the girl. she mumbled a soft thank you, bowing slightly, before spinning around walking off. he had caught her looking back a few times until finally she disappeared from view.
as if on cue, mingyu had appeared beside him. "you think she''s pretty, don't you?"
"what?" wonwoo's eyes widened as he was caught off guard by his younger friend's sudden words.
"don't lie, hyung," mingyu teased. "it's so obvious with that look on your face."
the older boy rolled his eyes, swiftly hitting the younger one's stomach with the back of his hand to shut him up. mingyu frowned, rubbing at the sore spot.
"yah! why don't you do something useful and clean those tables over there," wonwoo ordered.
mingyu gave a mock salute before snickering. he was able to avoid another meeting with wonwoo's hand as he sped off to the other side of the room.
wonwoo let out a chuckle as he watched his dongsaeng run off before his gaze drifted towards the entrance of the shop. only a minute ago, a quite average looking girl with messy violet and orange streaked hair and paint-stained clothes had walked out and left wonwoo wondering if she would return. so many girls, even prettier than she, had come into the coffee shop but it was only one that sparked the bit of curiosity he had.
