"Broken Promises"

*Cassie's POV*

I watched him as he walked away from me. I couldn't help but to start to tear up. I was starting to finally open up to him, only to have him walk away again.

"Cassie..."

I looked down at Kyle, feeling the tears escaping. He looked up at me in worry, black starting to surround his eye. I helped him up, and started to walk him backstage.

We needed to talk.

I sat him down on the couch, and he laid down. I went to go and grab some ice when I noticed Anna finally starting to wake up.

Kellin had put her on the same couch she was on earlier, where Jesse was silently looking over her.

"Anna." I said, grabbing hold of her hand to make sure she was okay.

She frowned up at me.

"I'm sorry for what I said. I didn't mean any of it. I just want you to be happy, and I thought Kellin could make that happen for you." She apologized.

"It's fine, Anna. Kellin and I are in a rough patch right now anyway." I said.

"Oh no..." She looked down. She acted as if she wanted to ask more, but she could tell by my face that now wasn't a good time.

She nodded. "I'm going to go look for him, okay?"

I started to protest, but she got up and left anyway.

I just sighed, getting the ice from the bartender, and walking back towards Kyle.

"Cassie!" I turned to see Jesse walking after me.

I gave him a questioning look.

"Be careful. Kellin is only looking out for you. The feelings that he has towards you overpower his sense to act rationally. Just forgive him, okay? He only wants to protect you, and he might have a shitty way of showing it, but at least he gives a damn."

And with that he shrugged his shoulders, and followed Anna to go find Kellin.

Maybe Jesse was right.

Kellin was only looking out for me. Maybe he just let his overprotective side get the best of him.

But.

It still didn't change the fact that he HIT Kyle. I wanted to believe that Kyle was innocent in all of this. But, what if he wasn't?

I reached Kyle to find him still laying on the couch. I kneeled down next to him and placed the ice over his eye. He shook, reacting to the cold that had just touched his face.

"Shit. That's cold." He groaned.

"Do you want the inflammation to go down?"

He just nodded.

"Then suck it up." I said with no patience.

He suddenly sat up, still holding the ice to his eye.

"We need to talk. About why he hit me."

"He already told me. I just don't know if I believe him yet."

He looked at me.

"I like you Cassie. I want to get to know you. Without the lies and rumors hanging above my head. I promise to tell you everything, but for one day... Just one day, can we forget about our pasts and just get to know each other?"

I hesitated. I wanted to take Kellin's warning and run with it. Run back to him. But I didn't want Kellin to be my protector. I wanted him to trust me.
