Chapter 2

"H-Harry," I nudged the Holmes Chapel native with my elbow. "Those people behind you. They're staring. And looking a bit suspicious, I might add," I warned him. I wanted badly for him to turn around and look at the strangers, but I feared they may look away.
"Do they look familiar?" He asked me, slowly turning around. One boy turned around to grab the food, leaving the other two still staring. I tried my best not to make eye contact with either of them, but somehow my dull blue eyes met lively brown ones. Even from a distance, I could practically feel the love and protection they seem to radiate.
While I was having a bit of a moment, Harry seemed to be having a moment of his own. His own eyes had met with a boy with eyes similar to mine, except his shone. With what, I am not completely sure. It was an emotion foreign to me. Happiness?
"Harry," I said, snapping him out of his trance. "You wanna go over there? We can stand and wait or go now," I suggest, folding my arms over my chest.
"Let's go over there now. I wanna know why they're staring," Harry says softly, taking my arm. By the time we reach Nando's, the three boys have gotten their food and left.
"Damn," Harry mutters, running a hand through his already-messy hair. "They looked familiar. Did they look familiar to you? I just wanted to see if I knew them. And then they practically sprinted away. What crawled up their arses?"
I laughed at Harry's choice of words. "Maybe they had somewhere to be?"
Harry looked like he was considering it. "Maybe," he agreed. "Now, let's get some food and go back to school. We were there this morning. Don't want anyone getting suspicious," he winked.
I almost laughed at the thought of anyone getting suspicious. They would only get suspicious if they found out Harry had left. Most people would rejoice that I'm not there. They may even laugh and say I had died.
"Agreed," I said. Harry and I both got into the nonexistent line, and I laughed for some unknown reason.
We both ordered, sat down, and began eating. I was more of inhaling the food. Not something I can do at school without getting more fat comments. Before I realized it, Harry and I had both cleared our plates and it was time to go back to school.
To the afternoon classes.
Without Harry.
I had become so accustomed to him waiting on me outside of classes, walking me to classes, and defending me in general, I didn't want to face the school without someone. But I knew that it was best to face this on my own. It was best not to bring Harry into it.
"I'll see you tomorrow, yeah? See if you can sleep over Friday night," Harry told me, before heading in the opposite direction of me.
"Yeah," I said. But Harry had already left.
"Cunt."
"Faggot."
"Whore."
The names haven't stopped since Harry left. I tried to put on a brave face and hold back my tears, and it was working. Until Sean came along, that is.
"Awe, look at the little faggot. All alone," he laughed bitterly. "Time to give you a taste of what you missed this morning."
Sean swung his fist at my jaw, not giving me enough time to react. I crumpled to the floor and curled into a small ball to protect my vital organs from damage.
What? It's happened before.
Sean tried to pull at my arm, to get me to uncover my stomach so he could get a good kick at it, and managed to pull me off the floor onto my feet. I was about to turn away, about to run, when I heard him speak again.
"Look at this, lads!" He had my bag.
He found what Harry and I had bought.
"What the hell is this?" He exclaimed as soon as he saw it. Then he laughed as he recognized it. "The little cunt has a cardboard cutout. Of a fuckin' celebrity. What are you going to use it for? You gonna pretend it loves you, because no one else will?"
At that point, I yanked my cardboard Liam out of his hands and sprinted down the hall, away from the madness. I was well-aware I wouldn't be able to go back to school today. I grabbed my school bag as I ran out. I was also aware I couldn't go home without getting yelled at. Possibly beaten.
Wouldn't be the first time. I pulled out my phone to text Harry.
To: Haz
Left early, things came up. Don't worry about me. See you tomorrow xx
With that out of the way, I shoved my phone into my pocket and walked out of the park I had stumbled into.
Until I ran into someone.
He was wearing a dark coloured hoodie as well as sunglasses. I looked up at the overcast London sky, then back at the boy in front of me.
"I'm so sorry!" He exclaims after a moment, reaching a hand out to help me up. I take it unsurely and pull myself.
"It's alright..." I pause. "Why are you wearing sunglasses? The sky's a bit overcast," I ask before I can put a filter on my mouth. Harry always makes fun of me because I can't control what I say. At the moment, I want to facepalm.
"It's a long story," he explains.
"I've got time."
"Yeah? Well, I don't. I need to go," he stutters before running off. I frown and continue staring at the spot where the boy was once standing.
I don't know why, but I want to know more about the hooded boy that I have now seen twice today.
