Everything stops. Even the buzz of the city around us ceases.

"I don't understand," Tsubaki says, breaking the silence.

"Is he okay?" Sun asks.

Kid shrugs, tears in his eyes. I silently raise and give him a hug.

"We will find him, I promise," I whisper in his ear. He hugs me back and tears roll down his cheeks. I clench him tighter, "I'm sorry,"

Everyone simultaneously stands and surrounds us, joining the hug. Liz and Patti join in tears.

"Where should we start looking?" I ask, pulling away.

Kid considers my words for a moment, contemplating an answer. "I don't know," he answers, looking at his feet.

"Maka, can you track his soul?" I ask her. She shakes her head. I sigh, "Okay, well then we split up and look through Death City, right?"

"Kay," Patti says between sniffles.

We divide into twos, Me and Kid, Blackstar and Liz, Patti and Soul, and Maka and Tsubaki. Me and Kid take the west end of Death City, we will all move inward and meet in the middle.

Death City is always ominous, especially at night, the shadows cascade in odd sizes, and I never thought about how much Death actually contributed to maintaining order. A few guys tried to mug us, Kid had to use me as a dual Scimitar.

"I have a question," I state in the silence.

"And I an answer," he replies. "Hit me,"

"What is so important about symmetry?"

He sighs in annoyance.

"The world must be balanced, you cannot see the stars without darkness, see the good without seeing the bad. If all is, for example, symmetrical, it brings us slowly closer to balance, correct?" he says. I nod.

"But, however," I say, "You cannot control others, even as a death reaper. You cannot have everyone parting their hair down the middle, not have them put bracelets on both arms. Who is to say people believe in your little balance scheme?"

"They don't have to, someone balances it out. We fight Kishen to maintain the balance between madness and sanity in every individual on this planet, madness is needed to bring out the sanity, to bring civilization to it's peak,"

"Do you truly fear imbalance?" I ask. He stops.

"Yes. If anything tips the scales, who knows what will happen to the world as we know it," he replies quietly.

I nod, surrendering my point.

"What about you, what do you fear? What brings the great moon to it's knees?" he has no idea.

"Fire,"

"Why?"

I sigh. "It's unpredictable... It's hot and thick and Idon'tknowhowtodealwithit..." I say quickly. I slow.

"What's the real reason,"

"It's... it's... complicated,"

"If you wont tell me about your fear of fire, explain something else you fear,"

"Why?" I ask defensively.

"Because, I opened up to you, it's only fair," he says. I roll my eyes.

"I fear expectation," I say, quietly, something I have never said out loud.

"Why?"

"Because, it's inaccurate peer pressure that shouldn't even exist, it's something the has driven me and Sun to almost committing suicide, it's something that follows you everywhere and anywhere you go... It haunts you!" I cry. Feelings just pour out and I look away from him.
