I awake, yet again, to the smell of bacon and pancakes.
"Jeez Maka, don't you get tired of cooking the same thing every morning?" I ask."Why do you not like it?" She asks, worriedly.
"No, no not that, it's just that I would be perfectly happy with a bowl of cereal in the morning, you really don't need to cook for me!" I say.
"Oh, it's fun. I've been meaning to ask, how's the apartment search going?" She says, I cringe.
"It's all so expensive! But I've heard the people across the hall are moving out," I say.
"Ah I see, that's cool!" She says. Suddenly she tenses, and runs to the window. Sun bolts down the stairs and does the same.
"What? What happened?" I say.
"It's a witch. She released her soul protect," Maka growls.
Me and Sun exchange a look.
"Let's go!" We yells, running out the door.
"Wait!" Maka screams, running after us. "Let's all go, increase our chances!" She say. Me and Sun nod in agreement.
"Soul!" She yells. He mopes down the stairs. "Witch." She says, almost instantly he perks up, smiling."Cool," he mutters.
We all run to Tsubaki and Blackstars house, where they are already dressed and prepared.
"He sensed her too," Tsubaki explains.
We debate about bringing Kid, Liz and Patti, but decide against it. Surely a Reeper has better things to do.
We follow Maka, considering she has the ability to see souls.
"Almost there!" She says.We keep running, eventually spotting a dark figure ahead.
"Aha! I was wondering what I had to do to get some attention around here! Jeez!" The figure yells, her voice smooth and beautiful. A dark gown emphasizes her body, her hair dark, her nails painted dark, and her makeup is dark.
"A goth witch, eh, shoulda seen it coming," Sun whispers to me, and I giggle slightly.
"Watch it! I'll take your soul!" Maka yells, trying to be intimidating but failing miserably.
"Oh really? That's so cute!" The witch laughs.
"Then hit me with your best shot!" Blackstar yells. She laughs louder.
"Oh! You misunderstand! I don't want a fight! I simply want some... Entertainment! And I think I know just what to do..." She says eyeing me. "How wonderful, we have the moons presence. The perfect entertainment!" She laughs. She mutters something under her breath, and suddenly her shadow glides forward, intertwining with mine.
**Suns Pov**
Adira falls to the ground, her shadow and the witches enter a combat. Adira looks weak, almost helpless.
"What did you do?" I growl. The witch laughs again.
"Why, you'll see!" She snickers then disappears into a fog of black smoke.
I run to Adi's side, holding her as she slowly goes to sleep, her shadow loosing the fight. What?
"I'm confused," Soul says, scowling, "did we loose?" He asks. We all shrug.
"Let's take her home, I'm sure she'll be fine soon," Maka says, helping a slightly conscious Adira to her feet, both of us supporting her weight.
"Are you okay?" I whisper to her.
She shrugs slipping back into unconsciousness. "I still need healing, Sun, my soul was vulnerable," she whispers, "I think she got inside,"
Her body becomes heavier as she falls asleep, I sweep her legs into my arms and keep walking.
Next time, I won't let her get hurt. I promise.
**Adira's Pov**
It's almost like a fever. Hot. Uncomfortable. It's been a constant feeling of weakness. I know what she did, it's an old trick but a useful one. She molded her shadow into mine."Night!" Maka says as she leaves my room. I nod quietly.
I dread sleeping. Ever since the spell, I see the horrible moments that occur in the night through my dreams. I watch multiple deaths, fights, watch so many children cry themselves to sleep but the worst was watching a teenage girl commit suicide. I wake up screaming so many times, I can't count. I don't want to see tonight's terrors.Sun walks in, pity in his eyes. I suddenly feel odd, as if I fell asleep. My body goes numb. I feel my face go emotionless, and my vision blurs to the point of no recognition. Suns silhouette backs off slowly.
**Sun's Pov**
"Night Adi!" I say, approaching her. I know she's had a hard time sleeping. Suddenly her face hardens into an emotionless frown.
"Adi?" I ask, as she slowly rises from her bed.
She laughs madly. "Just having a little fun!" she yells, her face settling into a mad grin. I realize her shadow is gone. The spell.
"Adira, think," I say, backing away slowly, her arm morphs into a blade. Oh god. Oh god no.
"I am thinking, I'm thinking about how you let me down with the witch. How could you just let her cast the spell, hmm?"she laughs. Oh god, oh god, oh god.
"Adira, stop!" I say. I stop backing away. I stand there. I trust her, she wont hurt me, I know it. Shake it out, Adi.
**Adira's Pov**
I stop in my tracks, my hand raised as a blade. Fog clears from my vision. It worked. My mother's words work for more than one thing, I guess. Sun's face looks relieved, my blade inches from his face.
"Oh my god," I say, backing away. What? I don't understand.
"Adira, It's okay," Sun starts. I cut him off.
"Go!" I yell. He takes a step back from shock, Maka's head peaks from the door way. "GET OUT ALL OF YOU!" I scream. I push them out and slam the door. I'm becoming my mother. This can't happen. I'm not going to go insane, that is not an option.
It is not an option.
I curl up in front of my door, images of fire and a mad grin burn themselves in my mind. I take a shaky breath. I want to talk to somebody, anybody.
Tsubaki. I think. I quickly open the door, relieved that Sun doesn't wait outside. I quickly run down the stairs, exiting the building in a flash of black.
I run down the street. I can't stop with madness filling my blood, my thoughts. It's not madness, I realize. The spell, the witches spell. My shadow. As I start to make the connection I arrive at Tsubaki's front door.
I take a moment to compose my thoughts before I knock quite loudly on the door. Blackstar answers the door, no shirt on.
"Adira, hey!" He says loudly. He's so loud wow.
"Hey, is Tsubaki here?" I ask formally.
"Um, yeah, why?" He asks, nosy as usual.
"I just need to speak with her," I say. He tilts his head to the right a slight bit, his eyes searching mine for an explanation.
"Um, okay," He says. "TSUBAKI! ADIRA IS HERE AND SHE WANTS TO TALK TO YOU!"
"Kay!" Tsubaki's voice yells from a room elsewhere. She runs to the door, wearing teal pajama pants and a beige t-shirt.
"Lets go to your room, okay?" I ask. She nods. We walk down a small hallway and turn at the second to last door.
"What's up?" She asks.
I gulp. "I think I almost killed Sun,"
