It's over

Abel

I was declined a visit to see Stefany at the hospital, because her petty nigga told the staff that only people on the list he gave them was allowed to see her. Now I'm sitting at home drinking bombay straight out the bottle like it's water. I pick it up on the kitchen counter for another swig but the bottle is snatched from me. Some of the liquor spills on my shirt and onto the kitchen floor.

“All you do is drink all day long, you have to stop.“ Bella says. I watch as she twist the cap back on and puts it inside one of the cabinets.

It might be out of sight but not out of mind.

"I don't need this shit right now Bella.“ I speak as I walk to my room.

I remove my shirt and grab a fresh black t-shirt out of the closet.

“This is becoming extremely exhausting Abel. You won't talk to me. I want to help, but you don't care.“ She says sounding upset now.

“There's no point on speaking on something you can't help.“ I tell her as I put on the shirt.

“Is it because you don't trust me?“ She asks.

“It's not even like that.“ I say as I take her hand. “Everyone has good and bad days. I had a bad day that's all. But it's better when you're here.“

Her face softens and she smiles. “Mine is a lot less shitty with you too.“

Jermaine (The next morning)

I haven't moved from my spot next to Stefany on the hospital bed.

I pray she wakes up soon because it was heartbreaking to see Xavier cry himself to sleep last night.

The doctor said the last time Stefany opened her eyes was yesterday before we showed up.

She hasn't communicated a single word.

I was afraid that she was in coma state, but the doctors said she wasn't. That she's just extremely exhausted.

I rest my head on her chest and my hand in hers.

What kind of person would do something like this to someone as innocent as her? Her beautiful face is full of cuts and bruises.

"Baby wake up. Xavier needs you and I need you." I whisper in her ear as I run my fingers through her long black hair.

It's like my words worked magic and her eyes slowly flutter open. At first they roam around the room before they finally land on me. I press the button to call the nurse to let them know she's up.

The nurse asks her questions but Stefany doesn't respond to any of them.

"We won't force you to speak Stefany, when you're ready we're ready." The nurse said with a tiny smile. 

The nurse checks on her vitals and makes sure everything looks good. Once everything looks good she steps back out to give us privacy.

"Where's Xavier?" Stefany asks finally speaking in a weak tone.

I nearly cried hearing her voice finally.  

"Xavier is fine baby, he's with Kade. I'm just glad you're okay babygirl.“ I say.

"I want to see him." She says.

"I promise you will see him real soon. Everyone is on their way here."
