Spending the rest of lunch time in Lenny’s office seemed like a routine I had when I’m pissed off at John, or simply just avoiding him. It was my safe haven, though I knew it would be the first place John would go to if he wanted to see me. Unfortunately today, he hasn’t come to get me, which is eating me alive, thinking he’d rather spend his time with Patricia inside his classroom.
At least, Lenny wasn’t a fan of Patricia either, giving me more confidence on handling this situation.
The bell rang indicating that students should head to their respective classes as lunch was done. But I wasn’t in the mood to go straight away to English class. At least, give them some space or whatever. Munching at a snail's pace on the snacks Lenny gave me while we were chatting about that witch, was an option for me to be late. I could just have an excuse I was studying for an extra credit in another subject.
“Aren’t you going to class now?” Lenny asked. He was eating a bowl of prepared salad and a clubhouse sandwich while reading some papers on his table.
I shook my head, and pointed at the snacks I was murdering, enjoying every bite.
“First day back and you’re skipping John’s class…” He grinned, bobbing his head up and down, like he was visualizing an idea inside his head, and to be honest, I don’t wanna hear his opinion about it.
“Not really, I decided to come in late.” I said, and all I got as a response from him was “Oh.”
“Do you want an excuse slip?” Lenny asked, though he was already looking for that slip around his desk and about to write me one.
“No need.” I figured I would be in trouble, with or without an excuse slip, anyway. Yeah, like John would let this go.
Fifteen minutes after the bell, I decided to start walking to English class, which would take me more or less about five minutes, considering the English room was in the opposite side of Lenny’s office.
As I reached in, I stopped in front of the door and breathe in and out to calm myself. I had a plan to ignore him the whole time, but knowing John, he would ask me to stay after class. At least, I would have enough time to gather my thoughts.
John was having a discussion in front of the class, and stopped when he saw me walked in.
“You’re late.” He muttered, as everyone’s eyes were on me, eyeing who have disrupted his class. Apparently, some of the students were stunned I was back, and the others continued on having their own business.
“Do you have an excuse slip?” He asked, as I shook my head, and went to my seat beside Amy.
“Where were you?” She whispered, asking why I didn’t show up at the cafeteria, when I was clearly there the first few minutes but they were all busy. Of course, I’m not gonna tell her that and sound like a jealous bee.
“Studying for extra credit.” I whispered back.
I noticed John still wasn’t continuing off with his lesson, instead he called my attention again. “Ms. Waters, I would love to hear your excuse for being late, and for disrupting the other students in class.”
“Oh I’m sorry for disturbing your class, Mr. Pearce. I was studying for extra credit for another subject, you can believe me or not, whatever you like.” Yep, he didn’t like my answer and the tone of my voice; I can see it in his expressions. “Now that’s been solved, I think you should continue on with the lesson and stop wasting the time of other people who are here to study, and not listen to my complicated and boring life story.” I smiled, sarcastically, which Amy caught and gave me a what-the-hell-was-that kind of look.
