* John’s POV *

By the time we all arrived to the hospital, Kayla was already inside the surgery room, while Lisa and her husband Jeremy were sitting down and waiting just outside the room, crying and comforting each other. No one knew what happened, not even Kayla’s closest friend Amy. These days she hasn’t been letting anyone in, except a few new ones, Skylar Jones and Blaze Stevens.

And as much as they were there for her, they were treated as suspects in this case.

This was all my fault. If I wasn’t selfish at all, if I worked things out differently, then maybe we wouldn’t be in this situation, maybe we would be having fun on a movie date, or learning a new step at the workshop, totally not this.

It was the first time I met Kayla’s other sister, Rachel. She has been sitting on one corner, and flew into Stacy’s arms the time we have arrived; still clueless of anything that has happened.

I could never forgive myself if anything happens to her. It was partly my fault, not being there for her to protect her, when I promised Lisa I would no matter what happens.

But I failed to keep that promise.

Just the same I promised Kayla I’ll always be here.

Two police officers that were handling the case came after a few minutes. Splitting up, they both talked to everyone and asked questions, unfortunately no one knew anything. No one even knew if she has been in trouble these past few days, or if someone hated her, though we recall her having a bruise and a sprained arm yesterday.

When asked if we knew what happened, all she said was that she fell.

As cliché as it sounds, we don’t even have any proof of what exactly happened to her, but it was some start. At least, this case was moving.

Another officer came into view with another woman in tow, covered with some blood stains on the lower part of her shirt. The other officer who was previously interviewing us came and met him halfway and talked quietly. Then they both approached Lisa, still with the woman following them.

“Hi, I’m Officer Randy, and this is Stella, she was the one who called us up to report the incident. She is our one and only witness.” He took a step behind, revealing the woman, crying and shaking, perhaps scared and traumatized.

“Stella, I’m Lisa Heathers and this is my husband, Jeremy.” She greeted and thanked her for everything she has done, knowing her life would be at risk since she was a witness after all.

She shook Lisa’s hand and nodded at what was presented to her. Now, everyone was gathering up in a circle, waiting for her side of the story.

Seeing as this was something long, one of the officers pulled out a chair for her to sit down and start reliving the memories.

Bad memories, at that.

As if on cue, she started fiddling with her hands and looking down not meeting anyone’s eyes. She seemed like a child about to tell her parents that she broke the lamp and is now receiving her punishment, but now it wasn’t close to it at all. She would be given recognition for at least saving up Kayla in any way.

“I was visiting my grandfather, it was his birthday today. As I was about to leave, I heard the land moving, thought it was an earthquake, but the buildings surrounding weren’t moving at all, and no other commotion was present, until I heard like millions of metal coming down with chains from the sky. It was terrifying, I wanted to run away, but seeing it was only me who was bothered, maybe I was just hearing things or getting dizzy.” She paused and took a deep breath.
