*A few hours later*
After we got everyone I looked around. All of the new arrivals were standing around talking to each other. Some were hugging others in happiness while others were expressing their worries about the turn of events. Either way, there were a lot of new people."I guess that everyone was lucky. I don't get and don't want to know how you guys all escaped with your lives. Over half the world is dead and the ones that aren't have turned to zombies." I said. I also saw that there were other people that I didn’t pick up here. I guess Nat or Lucy got them.
"Why didn't you go and find your fa-" I glared at Harry. He gulped and his eyes widened as he remembered what happened a few hours before.
"Because before this I was living in the woods or with Lucy. And now I’m basically stuck with these weirdos as my new family. Except Nat, sorry but I just met you. Kinda.” I smiled and shrugged towards them. They just smiled back at me and snickered.
"How about Dy-" My smile dropped as I cut off Lucy.
"Don't say that name." I said coldly. Then I turned on my heel and stalked away frowning.
"What's with her?" Liam asked as I walked off but with long distance hearing I could hear them loud and clear.
"Dylan was her first crush. He made fun of her in middle school but was the only one that seemed to calm her down. Well, at least when he was her friend. They were friends until he ditched her for the ‘popular group.’" Lucy explained. "Then one of the mean girls found out about her crush and confronted him about it. I guess he didn’t want to be associated with her and so he started denying it while teasing her the rest of the time.
I frowned and flew to a tree that was just near the perimeter. Trying to calm myself down, I surveyed the extremely high walls and the new zombie-less town. Then I checked the spot where the secret door was to make sure no one was trying to get out or in. Which wasn’t very likely since the only ones who knew about it were the really responsible adults. AKA, everyone except the celebrities we got. Sighing, I turned back to the group and flew down.
"Let's go to the next town." I said. I really didn't want to go there because that was where Dylan lived. You see, he lived two towns away but he still went to my school. It was only a 30-minute drive from my neighborhood to his and so he was still pretty close to our school. But whatever, once we go there we noticed that there weren't any zombies. But I stomped my foot down and felt a family nearby. I ran to them and saw the person that I never wanted to see ever again. Either way, I had to help them.
"Hi there! We're here to rescue you." I said forcing a smile. The others came running up next to me and noticed whom I was talking to. Lucy and Nina dropped their smiles quicker than you can say 'disaster' while everyone else smiled politely at the family. Meanwhile, one of the family members scowled deeply at us and crossed his arms.
"We don't need your help." Dylan said. His sister frowned at him in disapproval while his mother elbowed him. I mentally rolled my eyes at his attitude but kept my smile on for their sake.
"We have to get you to the safe house." I said with my fake smile.
"Psh. I can handle it. You don't see any zombies here, right? That's because I burnt them all." He proudly smirked. That one sentence made me freeze, fake smile and all.
"Than you can be on our team! We’re trying to save the world from the zombies! Please be on our team!" Niall said excitedly then grunted from the force of my elbow hitting him too low. I meant to hit his gut, but he was a bit taller than I thought. Instead he ended up laying down in a fetal position on the ground.
"Oops." I deadpanned. Lucy glared at me and I rolled my eyes.
"Well, we would love to have you but we can't. So why don't you go to the safe house?" I said to them. Dylan’s parents smiled wearily at me.
"Oh that would be wonderful! Thank you." His mother said gratefully.
"He can also be on this team." Harry said but after he made sure he wasn't near me. My hair turned to fire and I glared at him very forcefully. Before I could say anything, though, Dylan answered.
"Awesome! I would love to, Sam. It would be fun to remember the old times." Dylan said smirking. I continued to glare at Harry, but then closed my eyes and took deep breaths. Breath in and out, I thought.
"I know right! Well, we should get you guys back!" I said grabbing everyone and transporting them to the safe house.
