"Hey Rin! Who is this?" I asked, looking at the blushing grey hair boy.
"My name is Nitori and I am Rin's team mate." He said and I nodded before turning to look at Rin. He was staring at Alex as she was looking at the kids playing a game nearby and she smiled. Her hair hung down her hips and her emerald eyes danced with happiness while Rin's jacket hung over her hands. I forgot she brought that. But she seemed really happy and I'm glad. I haven't seen her this happy since she lost her brother! Rin shook his head before turning his attention back to me and Nitori.
"Ai, this is my cousin Blaise and her best friend Alex." He said and Nitori turned to Alex.
"I've heard a lot about you—"He got elbowed by Rin "About you two" He said, closing one eye and rubbing his arm.
"What are you doing here?" Nitori asked us.
"Well, I brought Mermaid here because this is her first time in Japan." I said as I smiled as Alex turned her head towards us.
"You mean she isn't from here?" Nitori asked and I nodded
"She's from America. So is Blaise actually." Rin told him.
"Both of you are?!" He asked as his eyes lit up. Suddenly this red haired boy ran up us and smiled excitedly at Alex.
"Kou, how are you?" He asked Alex and looked at him with a confused look.
"Remember, I'm Momo. I like stag beetles!" He said and she giggled slightly. Rin growled before grabbing Momo's shirt and yanked him forward.
"That isn't Kou!" Rin snapped at him.
"Hold this" Alex said before giving me Rin's jacket. I took it as she walked up to Rin.
"You can be such a mean shark!" She said as she grabbed onto his arm
"Let him go." She said and he released Momo.
"You aren't Kou?" Momo asked and Alex shook her head and smiled before turning back to Rin. She slid her hand down his arm and picked up his hand and clasping his hand between both of hers.
"Rin, I could have explained myself." She said and Rin looked down as she gently let go of his hand. A gust of wind came up and he shivered. Alex looked at Rin in concern before quickly walking back over to me and taking the jacket. She walked back over to Rin and put the jacket over his shoulders. He looked at her in shock before his face turned bright red. Oh my god, they are too cute!
"I don't want you to get sick." She told him before stepping back.
"Th-thank you." He stammered as he rubbed his head nervously. Nitori and I turned to look at one another, smiling knowingly.
"I'm getting tired." Alex said, turning towards me.
"We should be getting home anyway. It was nice meeting you Nitori!" I said, smiling at him.
"You too!" He said, smiling back.
"Bye Rin" I said as he walked over to me.
"Bye Blaise" He said while hugging me. Alex waited until he released me and we began walking. It wasn't long before Rin had run up behind us and hugged Alex from behind.
"I can't forget to hug my little mermaid!" He said with a smile and Alex's face was red. If he would have seen her reaction, he would have laughed! She turned around and hugged him back before walking off quickly.
"Bye Rin!" I said again before jogging to catch up with Alex.
"That was cute." I said as we walked home.
"I guess Nitori is" She said, looking down at the ground.
"What?" I asked, laughing at her.
"You said he's cute." She told me.
"I did not, you're just trying to change the subject." I said with a giggle.
"My feet kill!" She complained as we continued walking home.
"We are almost home, you will live." I said, giggling slightly.
"Do you want to go to the ocean tomorrow? I want to swim but after what happened last week, I understand if you don't want too!" She asked, frowning slightly. If you can still be in the ocean after you lost your brother I can swim with you! I'm not afraid to swim in the ocean, I only almost drowned because of how bad it was storming.
"Of course I will go!" I said as I smiled at her and she smiled back at me. We walked in the house and she ran to my room to change.
"How was your girl's night?" my dad asked me and I walked up and hugged him.
"Good, we ran into Rin actually." I said with a smile.
"Oh he's back from Australia?" My dad asked, smiling at me.
"Yea, he's the captain of the swim team in Samezuka academy" I said, nodding.
"He's the captain?" Alex asked as she came up and hugged my dad also. She's always treated my father like he was her dad too. Actually when I think about, I never saw her act like that with her parents.
"Oh girls, your friends came by and left these for you." He said, grabbing a folded piece of paper off the table and handing me the paper. I opened it, Alex looking over my shoulder to read the paper. On the paper was the guy's names and their numbers. Oh, now I could text Makoto! Or would that be weird? I don't want to creep him out or anything!
"We should text them and tell them that we are going swimming tomorrow!" I exclaimed before running off to my room. Alex followed behind me, passing me so that she could open her suitcase and get her phone out. Now that I think about it, I don't remember her parents ever contacting her since she's moved here.
"Mermaid, it's been a week. Have your parents called you?" I asked while plopping on my bed. She froze a moment before shaking her head.
"Guess not. They are probably busy or something." She said while entering the guy's number into her phone. She sent them a text so that they would have her number before setting her phone down. Soon her phone buzzed and she picked it up to read the message.
"Oh my god!" She said and slapped her forehead with her hand.
"What?" I asked while entering the guy's number into my phone and sending them a message also.
"Well Nagisa told me I am now mermaid in his phone. This is your fault Otter, fuck you!" She huffed as she set her phone back down.
"Mermaid, why do you like the water so much?" I asked as she got up and pulled the blankets back. She stopped and looked at me.
"The water has never hurt me." She stated before climbing into bed. Huh? But didn't the water take your brother from you?
"Why do you still swim after, the incident?" I asked her, trying not to probe too hard. I flinched slightly when she sighed, worried I upset her.
"I made a promise to someone I would never stop swimming but I refuse to swim competitively." She said and laid down. Who? I turned to ask her but she was already asleep. I crawled in the bed next to her and she cuddled into me as I drifted off to sleep.
