*Blaise*

Alex had fallen asleep, cuddling me like normal and I smiled before drifting off also.

I was running over to a familiar house, my body full of panic. Where was I going? I still had no idea but I was pounding on a door when I noticed my face was hurting and there was blood running down from nose.

"I will find you, you worthless runt! And when I get a hold of you, you will be 6 feet under this time! I mean it this time!" My mother screamed and I pounded harder on the door when suddenly it opened, revealing a sleepy looking Alex.

"Otter, what's wrong?" she asked yawning. I whimpered before I turned and spotted my mother making her way over.

"Get inside and hide. I won't let her have you!" Alex said, pushing my inside. I nodded before running over to her couch and hiding behind it. I clasped a hand across my mouth, trying not to cry out loud when I heard my mom began yelling at Alex.

"Alex, where is my daughter? I know she is here!" I heard my mom snap at her.

"You can't have my otter! Go home, you reek of booze!" Alex snapped back at her.

"You little bitch!" My mother yelled back.

"I might be but I know you are mean and you can't have Otter!" She yelled before slamming the door in her face and locking it. I was crying as I ran up to Alex, hugging her,

"Mermaid, thank you!" I cried into her shoulder.

"Come on Otter, you must have stumbled running over here. You have a bloody nose, I will help fix it." She said before taking my hand and smiling at me as she walked me into the bathroom.

"What was your mom pissed at this time?" She asked me and I paused for a moment, trying to think of an answer.

"W..well I got back from dive practice and I must of not dried off enough and accidently slipped when I was walking through the living room. She was asleep and I guess she must have been drinking but ended up waking her up when I knocked off a bottle of the table when I slipped. I guess I must have hit my nose on the table when I tripped. She was upset so I freaked out and over reacted, running over here." I told her, tears stinging my eyes. I was telling the truth for the most part but not telling the truth out my nose. The truth was when my mother woke up and realized I had broken a bottle of her alcohol, she had begun screaming at me and swung at me. I decided to run when she had went to hit me again, noticing her demeanor different than normal. Normally she would hit me once or until she deemed fit but she was glaring down at me with deadly glint in her eyes.

"This is the last fucking time! I'm going to end this once in for all!" She yelled as I ran out the front the door, heading for Alex's.

My eyes snapped open, the sudden realization that if Alex had not been there that day that I would not be here today. I felt tears pour down my face as I sobbed quietly before turning towards Alex, shaking her.

"Mermaid, w-wake up!" I gasped out through my sobs and she woke up, looking at me.

"Otter, what's wrong?" She asked as she sat up. I couldn't say anything as I continued sobbing and I hugged her.

"Because of you, I am still here today. You have no idea how much you mean to me!" I was able to say through my sobs as I continued to cry into her shoulder. She has always been here for me! She doesn't even realize how much I owe her. Had she not been there that day, I have no doubt that my mother would have beat me to death in her drunken rage.

"What are you talking about otter?" She asked looking over at me in confusion, tears filling her eyes.

"Just know I am here still because of you." I told her as she held me close. She began rocking my slightly and singing my little sunshine, trying to calm me down.

"You have such a pretty voice." I mumbled sleepily, feeling tired again my eyes got heavy as Alex laid me down, cuddling tightly into my side as I fell into a deep sleep.

I woke up the next day, Alex still holding onto me as she slept. That's odd, she's usually up before me. Oh yeah, she got hurt last night! As I went to get up, her eyes opened suddenly as she woke up.

"Good morning, Mermaid" I told her, frowning when she grabbed her head.

"My head fucking hurts!" She growled before flipping the covers off her and stood up. But as soon as she went to stand, she tumbled backwards onto the bed.

"I'll go get dad, stay put" I said concerned before running towards the kitchen.

"Dad, her head really hurts and she can't walk well- and she..." I got out before getting cut off by him.

"Blaise dear, she hit her head last night so I don't think she should go to school today." He said while stirring his coffee.

"I'll try" Alex said holding her head as she walked down the hallway towards us.

"Really, must you? You had quite a hit on your head last night and I think you should stay home." He said, getting up and putting his arm around her.

"Mermaid, I'll get your homework for you!" I told her with a smile and she looked at me.

"I don't want to leave your side. Not after last night." Alex said, referring to my breakdown after I woke up last night.

"I'll be okay!" I said, smiling gently as I remembered last night and I took her back to our room before laying her down on the bed.

"Mermaid, get some rest and before you know it I'll be back. I might even bring the boys with me." I smiled as I tucked her in and I kissed her forehead. She gave me a drowsy smile before falling asleep and I giggled slightly before heading to school. Time seemed to tick by so slow without her and I kept checking my phone, hoping for a message from her. Lunch time eventually rolled around and I headed up to the rooftop, meeting up with the guys to eat.

"Where is mermaid?" Haru asked me as I approached them.

"Her head was hurting her really bad today so my dad made her stay home." I said sadly, frowning.

"Maybe we should go see her!" Nagisa said excitedly, waiting for my answer.

"I was actually going to ask that. Do we have swim today Makoto?" I asked him.

"No but tomorrow we do. What is Alex going to do since she can't really swim?" He chuckled a little, remembering last night.

"I have no idea..." I said before the bell rang.

"I'll see you guys after school!" I said, waving at them before running off to class.
