CHAPTER NINE

As soon as Lexi was done from her three classes and the bell rang for lunch, she pounced up from her chair and packed her notepad and pens into her Juicy tote bag, ready to tell Katya the news of what she had just been offered.

The cafeteria was a large room at the end of the school, with a long line of teenagers waiting with a tray, to see what food was being served, and many indoor and outdoor lunch tables scattered around.

Katya was sitting at a table at the far corner of the room, talking to a mousy haired girl with a pointed face.  She was a fellow cheerleader on the team, and her name was Dina Summers.  Lexi rushed up to the two of them with a tray of french fries and a burrito.  She settled her tray down, with a grin on her face, and waited for the two girls to stop conversing.

"I tried telling her that she shouldn't be part of the pyramid, but she won't listen," Dina was saying.

Katya sighed.  "I'll have a word with her.  We have to be polite in this matter.  Thanks Dina."

Dina inclined her head, twinkled her fingers and skipped off to a jam-packed neighboring table, full of cheerleaders and jocks, many of which Lexi recognized as Ryan's friends.

"What's up, babe?" Katya questioned, popping a green grape into her mouth.

Lexi took a deep breath, ran a hand through her long light hair and began, "When I went to home-room this morning, I had a talk with the class councillor and she told me that I've been accepted into this college in Ohio."

Katya raised a thin blonde eyebrow.  "Wait.  College?  You're still only a sophomore!  You haven't even done your SATs."

"It's a program for young teenage mothers to be.  It's an English course, because apparently my work in English class is a little better than I thought," Lexi said, proudly.

Katya smiled, slightly.  "Oh.  Really?" She didn't seem too intrigued.

Lexi's face fell.  "Aren't you happy for me?"

Katya shrugged.  "So, what?  You're gonna leave R.R?"

"No.  Well, yes.  But just for the rest of this school year.  I'll be back for junior year.  It's just so I can still have schooling and participate in my favorite class and be with people that won't judge me as much as the people over here would.  It's a great experience and it'll go down on my record."

"What will?  That you went to a teenage pregnancy school?" Katya said, blandly.

Lexi raised her eyebrows in shock.  "Katya!"

Katya widened her crystal blue eyes, seeming like she was surprised that she had just blurted out something like that.  She took a sip from her apple juice then pushed a few strands of white blonde hair out of her smooth face.

"Sorry, Lexi.  That was not necessary," she muttered.  "This is pretty sudden, and it seems like you've decided already.  What will your parents think?"

Lexi bit her lip.  "Well, they phoned up school anyway behind my back, asking if R.R would let me be here as a pregnant student."

"And?"

"And they said they would, but then the Headmaster had a talk with Mrs.  Tanner and she decided to e-mail the college, because she knew they had a teenage pregnancy program.  I'm sure my parents will be happy.  And I get to go and live with Angel in Ohio!" Lexi said.

Katya frowned, chewing on the inside of her cheek, anxiously.  She nibbled on a piece of her burrito and Lexi bit down on a french fry.  There was a large pause as the two of them ate, in silence.
