CHAPTER FOURTEEN

"I'm sorry," Lexi began, nervously.  "I just saw this sticking out of your drawer.  I didn't mean to pry."

"Get out," he said, firmly.

Lexi raised her eyebrows, her stomach churning in fear.  She had never pictured Ashton being this angry or upset.  He always had a joking attitude.

"Ashton I'm sorry, I was just intrigued by your room and-" Lexi tried.

"GET OUT!" He snapped.  His jaw was jutting out of his face tensely and his skin had gone paler than it already was, his silk-like hair standing at an odd angle.

Lexi bowed her head down and paced out of the room in shame.  Violet wasn't out of the bathroom yet, so she decided to gather her stuff and leave, in case Ashton got even more upset.  Besides, she didn't want to embarrass herself further.

She drove home, her hands gripping the steering wheel in stress and her knuckles paper white with shock.  No matter his hostile attitude towards her and reaction on her viewing the letter and picture, she still couldn't help but feel curious towards the mysterious Alaska girl.  What had happened to her?  How long had they been together?  She figured it would be months before she even got close to Ashton again and knowing him, he wouldn't say a word...

Twelve weeks...

As February crept in, and rain was never ending in the land of Ohio, Lexi had forgotten about the Ashton confrontation and was distracted by her sudden growing belly.

It wasn't showing to an extent that an outsider could see that she was pregnant, but Angel, Anthony, Lexi and all of her school friends noticed the pooch that protruded through her clothes.

On a grey Tuesday morning during a compulsory Trig class, given by a very boring and very ugly lecturer, Lexi felt her iPhone buzz inside the pocket of her denim Forever 21 jeans.  She couldn't hold in her curiosity so she decided to get it out anyway, not that the clueless lecturer would notice.

It was a text message from Violet and the words were scattered, almost like she had written the message fast.

Julie is comin.  @ grace mem. hospital.  come. come. come.

Lexi stood bolt upright in shock and the majority of the class turned their heads towards her.

"Is there a problem, Ms.  Whitmore?" The male teacher lisped.

Lexi ignored him and glanced at Ariel, who was sitting behind her and also glancing at her phone.  She looked up, her grey eyes wide in surprise.

"Violet!" she mouthed.

"No wonder she didn't come in today," Lexi said, out loud.

"Hello?!" The lecturer spat, impatiently.

Lexi turned to him and rolled her eyes.  "Violet Segae is having her baby today.  We need to be there for her at the hospital.  She wants us there."

"I believe you are just supporting friends, am I right?  You are not family.  Nor do you have a right to be there.  Sit down please," he spat, hotly.

"But she has no family.  She wants her friends there," Ariel protested.

The lecturer folded his arms bleakly and shook his head.

"Two less scatter-brained pregnant teens to teach.  Go on," he groaned, and the two girls sprinted out of the classroom and down the hall towards the elevators in excitement.

"Oh, My God!  I wonder what the baby's gonna look like!" Ariel shrieked.

"With her little hands and feet," Lexi gushed.  "This just makes me want my baby even more!" She swept her hands down to her rounding belly and massaged it.
