She raises her eyebrows and face the window, we drive past a playground where there are several children that keeps on playing no matter the cold weather. As we pass the playground she turns her head and follows the children with her eyes.
There is something special about her and children, I don't know if it's something that happened in the past or if she just likes children very much.
Jen has such strong feelings when it comes to children, I have decided not to disclose her to the case we're working on now, because then I can guarantee she will dig into it and then get out of control; again.
She moves her eyes from the road, toward me. She opens her mouth, but shut it quickly when she repents to talk. She opens her mouth again.
"I was a member of the Shadows when you found me beaten up outside your house, remember? But somehow you managed to make me want to leave the group and become something good but due some things I just couldn't let go of it. There was this weekend where I was almost completely out of the business when Cal gave me a one last job to pick up a brand new Volvo from Max's, you know the place where they sell cars. Cal said he would take care of the man who drove the truck with the cars, so I just had to go there and drive away, which I did. But when I was about to drive out through the gates, the police came and blocked my way" Jen says.
There's one thing I can't let her know, and that is that we're working on a case right now that involves Cal. If she finds out, things will go bad.
"How did the police know?" I ask.
"Cal probably snitched on me because he knew I was leaving" She say.
"That's it?" I ask.
"Piece of cake, right?" She reply.
Worried I pull my hand through my short hair. I'm silent for a while, thinking through what she said and wondering what's missing, and what went wrong; what led her to make such a big misstep and how she missed that it was a trap. I grip the steering wheel tightly and squeeze out some anger from the recently completed conversation. Jennifer is the most irresponsible 19-year-old I know, but she has a big heart and seek others' safety and that makes her a good person as well as an idiot.
It begins to vibrate in my pocket, with one hand I dig in my pocket until I get on the phone. It is Al.
"Al" I answer.
"We got a location on Cal, I'll send you the coordinates now" Says Al.
I look at the screen and see the coordinates Al sent, then I put the phone to my ear again.
"I'll be there in 3" I say.
The location is a couple of blocks away, I know that neighbourhood very well, it's where I met Jen the second time, also completely beaten up. I remember that day like it was yesterday. I remember how I walked up to her and sat down beside her, she was drunk maybe even drugged and her entire body was beaten black and blue.
Back then she was fifteen, and her entire life had already been broken down into pieces, but I wanted to bee the one who glued the pieces back together. But I never seem to be able to but the final pieces back into place.
A/N hah, worst ending ever, make sure to read next chapter "3.5" as well :) If you have any questions or concerns, feel free to contact me!
I'm not so proud of this chapter, don't really know why. I just don't like it but I hope you don't mind.
