My heart is bolting. I don't know what to expect, there are so many things that possibly could happen. That thought makes me think. What if she get hurt? She's 19 years old, with no experience of being a cop, and, she's stupid. Once again, great.I pick up my phone for a second time, the feeling in my hands are conpletely gone. I can truly admit that I've underestimated the cold today. This has to be the coldes day so far, but it isn't that odd, it's November and they said on the news that today was the coldest day in 18 years. I look at the screen, I see Sylvies phone number, I consider not to call her. If Jennifer gets hurt, that's a then problem. I put the phone back into my pocket and start to focus on the sounds, I should can hear them if i listen carefully
The only sound I can hear, is my own heavy breaths, and my shoes making creaking sounds toward the snow. There's no one out, walking their dogs or playing with their children. I can't se a bird, not a cat, I can barely se any cars. Though this is a lonely block, so it shouldn't surprise me.
In this intense silence someone screamed with his whole body. It is this kind on scream when the eyesare wide with horror, the mouth rigid and open, and where the nails are digging deeply into the palm of the hand. The scream tear through me like a great shard of glass. I feel my eyes widen and pulse quicken.
This isn't the scream of a man, it's to pitch to be from Cal who has a quite deep voice. But it isn't Jennifer either, she doesn't do screaming. Instead she would clasp onto something for support, anything, the back of a chair or someones hand, and then her whole body would shake. She blinks briny tears from bloodshot eyes, her hands would open and closes, rhythmically clenching as if there could be some violent solution.
I learned that the hard way.
The question is, who is she? The girl screaming, who can it be? I follow the sound I just heard, guessing where it might have come from.
It actually surprises me that Voight hasn't appeared yet, coming with his car, driving 5m/h to fast without any reason. But he hasn't come yet, in fact, I haven't heard of anyone. They've got to be stuck with something.
I follow the scream, or to be more correct I'm running to where the scream came from. When I'm about to run around a corner that leads to another alley, I hear Jennifer and a certain someone, and in this case it's Cal.
When this happens at work, I somehow get a little blit excited, maybe excited is the wrong word but I get like nervous-excited.
I pick up my gun and grap it tightly. My heart is bolting, but not to bad though. Slowly I sneak around the corner, touching it with my shoulder and keeping my senses alert. I'm about to say my normal phrase 'CPD get down on your knees' when I realize that Cal is forced to the wall and Jennifer is holding a knife towards his throat.
Her face is rigid, jaw clamped tight, her teeth almost grinding. It's time to to act now before she do something she'll regret later.
"Now is not a god time Jay" She say without looking at me
I didn't even know she noticed me, I'm quite surprised though.
"Jennifer, put the knife down, okay?" I remove one hand from the gun and hold it up as I walk closer "Toss is backwards and we'll forget this"
She breathes heavily, her breaths are short and hevy which isn't good. It means she is angry, but stressed and scared.
When I walk closer to her she seem to get a little bit distracted but she doesn't care about me.
"Cops don't do it this way" I continue. I walk up behind her, wait for a second and put my gun toward her back. "Drop it now!" I say, this time a but angrier. Still nothing. I load my gun. "last warning" I say.
