~Erin Lindsay's pov~
Fear and excitement squirm together in my stomach, just like they did yesterday, just like they did all other days. I imagine running into a dark building, the excitement and the cold wind blowing, tangling my hair. I imagine going in there and saving someones life, and maybe invite Halstead over to my place on a romantic dinner on my balcony.
However that's not the reality, my partner Halstead, and I rush through the backdoor and down to the stairs. The wooden stairs leading down to the basement screech with each of my footsteps. I have to tilt my head down to not get all the cobwebs with dead insects, in my hair.
"How can someone live here?" Halstead, who is close behind me, says
I shake my head, I don't think I really want to know, or I do know; I don't want to know. I set my foot on the last step and stumble down because my foot get stuck in the step that broke when I laid my weight on it.
We reach a door with a puddle of blood underneath it. I look at Halstead, Jay Halstead, and nods. In seconds he has knocked the door down and we rush into the room. We almost stumbles over the two bodies laying lifeless on the unstable wooden floor.
"We got two bodies in the basement" Halstead say through his radio to call the rest of the team down.
I look around, there's a familyphoto on a cardboard box, placed in the corner of the small square room. I pick it up, I can clearly see that the people in the photo match those on the floor. I move my thumb over the picture to the baby in the mothers bosom, there's a baby wrapped up in a yellow blanket, he or she is wrapped up with care. It's a loved child.
My boss Voight comes through the door and he as well almost stumbles over the bodies. He can see my concern and comes over to me. He can quickly spot the baby on the photo.
"Alright everybody, listen up, search through every corner, every closet, there might be a baby in the house" Voight says with his hoarse and deep voice
My phone vibrates in my pocket, I pick it up. The light from the screen creates a strong light in the nearly pitch-black room. '2.10 PM, please' I read on the display. I run my hand through my hair.
"Are you okay?" Voight says from behind
I sigh and put my phone back into my pocket "yeah, it's just Jennifer, she wants me to pick her up" I say looking at the photo again, I have replaced it on the cardbord box.
"Don't worry, I got it" Voight says, placing his warm hand on my shoulder. I smile, making him smile back. We keep seach for the possible baby in the room. But to me it feels like we're searching for something long gone. What if the killer have the baby? What if the little life is taken from earth too?
