There I was, finally about to walk in a College Hall.
I've been dreaming about that basically since my 1st year of High School. I knew it was pretty early, but at least I had a little hope. My High School experience was a real nightmare. Kinda like you see in movies, but I was the loser. The bullied one.
I've always thought that before my last year of High School, my life would've changed. That College would've help. So, there I was that day, full of hopes. Full of ambition, full of dreams. Even though I wasn't completely sure of what I wanted to do with my life.
"Are you gonna just stay here and stare at the door or actually walk through it?" the principal asked as I shyly looked down and laughed,
"Follow me in my office" he smiled.
I slowly followed him getting lost in the whole hallway atmosphere. People running, walking, and chatting towards classes. Dorms, little lifts' doors, professors. I kinda feared crowded corridors but I guess it was gonna be pretty useful not to get lost, I could've just follow them and find the right class or, why not, the bathroom.
We soon reached principal's Fuller office and walked in.
"Please, have a sit" he smiled as I nodded and sat down an armchair.
His office smelled like old paper and cigarettes. The walls were covered up with pictures of him and what I suppose it was his family, playing with dolphins, camping around fire. His desk was average, almost as big as the professors' desks laying in those huge College classes.
"So, Miss.Jordan, I took you here to get some things straight. First, in the College world you will do everything yourself, no parents allowed if not in holiday meetings and a couple of fairs we have through the school year, okay?"
"Perfect" I said, hiding my excitement. It was a really good new to me, since I didn't want my parents in my life and it was basically why I was there that day, mostly.
"Good. Second, our way to match roommates. In the last years we've always matched girls with girls and boys with boys, but we came to the conclusion that it's really not a good idea. So, from the last year, a computer matches roommates up and there's no way you can change it. At least not since you're not both 100% in agreement and with the right causes and stuff"
"Wait, so I could have a boy as a roommate?" I asked, gasping.
"Yeah, probably. It's a 50-50 shot. Third, we expect from all of our students maximus willing in having good scores and goals. We have a lot of clubs and fun activities though, you will find all the info you need in the main hall, 3rd room on the left. That's where you will go now to have your room's keys. Any question?"
"N-No" I esitated,
"Alright. So, go" he smiled as I quickly nodded and walked out.
"3rd room on the left, easy to say" I sighed as I walked through the main hall, full of doors. Each corridor was the perfect copy of the other one, like those hospital corridors, they all looked the same.
"Excuse me?" I quietly called out, opening a random door.
"Yeah?" a blonde girl asked, not even looking up to know who she was talking to.
"Is this the room where I get my room's keys?"
"Yeah, take a number"
2 minutes later it was finally my turn, I stood up and reached the desk.
"Name?" she asked,
"Uhm, Sasha Jordan"
"Room 21. 2nd hall, 4th door on the right. Have a good stay" she emotionless saied as I picked the keys up and walked out the room.
So many halls, too many doors. I thought I was gonna get lost the first weeks, I was actually pretty sure of it. I had a good memory though, but, as I said before, those corridors looked all the same.
"Okay now, I'm in the second hall, 4th door on the-" I started as a guy ran out a room and bumped into me.
"Hey!" I yelled,
"Whoops. If the cops ask you, you've never seen me" he said running away.
"Uhm, okay" I replied with a confused tone.
"Oh, great, this is the room" I sighed as I looked at the open room that guy left a couple of seconds earlier.
As I walked in I gasped. Clothes were literally everywhere, a backpack on the ground and a bed probably used from the night before. My fear became true, I had a guy as a roommate. It was not that I didn't like boys but, you know, it was kinda stressful and made me feel pretty uncomfortable. I thought, I would prefer a boy over a snob girl anyway, so it was okay.
I took a quick shower and put on black leggins and a grey t-shirt. I slowly walked out of the bathroom, sat on my bed and sighed.
***
I slowly opened my eyes. Great, I fell asleep. I quickly stood up and looked around, that guy was sitting on his bed looking at me with a weird look.
"I, uhm, I must have fallen asleep. I'm Sasha" I said walking towards him trying to avoid his used bad smelling clothes laying on the ground.
"Oh, hey. Rocky" he said with a cold tone ignoring my hand.
I quickly pulled it back and looked down.
"So, uhm, have you ever thought of washing these clothes?" I asked,
"I already have a mom, that's why I'm here" he said laying down his bed,
"Uhm, alright" I said almost as a question.
I slowly walked back to my bed and sat on it again, thinking about what just happened.
"Do you mind if I invite a couple of friends over?" he asked standing up as he took his shirt off,
"Uhm, actually-"
"Nah, whatever. I'm going out, bye" he said, throwing his shirt on the floor as he quickly walked out of the door.
"Okay" I said to the empty room.
I layed down my bed, put my loved earphones on and finally tried to get some rest. That's when I knew, it was gonna be a long year.
