"It's been a while, hasn't it?" David said when Doreen just continued to stare at him. The 18 year old made sure to keep her distance. She nodded.
"Yeah, it has." She said.
"How are you?" The male tried to make conversation and be casual but how can you be casual with someone who escaped the organization they worked for together because they were going to kill her?
"Alive."
"Right." David nodded again.
They were good friends back in the organization with...
"Doreen," David started, "they know about you and the others."
"I know," She stared at him, accusation in her eyes, "I wonder who told them?" The male looked down, not wanting to look her in the eye.
"I didn't tell Gen and Julian that the others have powers," He started walking towards her but she stayed rooted to the spot, "and I didn't tell them where you are. They just have the pictures."
"Pictures," Doreen laughed dryly and nodded, "right, pictures. I'm guessing you had someone take them, right?"
"Doreen," The male warned, "Gen and Julian are here, they're - "
"They're here to capture me, right?" She retorted. "Or are they here to capture the others and experiment on them like what they did to - "
"But he escaped!" David raised his voice. "He escaped along with you, and he's perfectly fine." His eyes bore into hers. "I've seen him." Doreen bit her bottom lip and looked down.
"I've seen him too..." she muttered. David licked his now dry lips and swallowed the lump in his throat. Even though he looked different after the escape, he still recognized him. They still recognized him, but it looks like he hasn't recognized them.
"Gen and Julian haven't recognized him, thank God." He said and looked at her. "Trish is out to get you." Doreen nodded slowly.
"I know."
"Why'd you guys have to go to the BSIA and destroy the machine and take the chemicals?" He questioned, a confuses expression on his face. "You made things a whole lot more complicated and Trish is..." He sighed. "Well Trish is aware now."
"I know," she licked her dry lips and stared at him, "but I can't just let them experiment on more people! Especially since it succeeded this time."
"You don't know who they experimented on that became a success, right?" He asked. She shook her head.
He opened his mouth and then closed it again. Should he tell her? His phone started ringing and he immediately knew that it was Julian calling him to ask where he is. He sighed and shook his head.
"Doreen," he said again and she looked at him, "just be careful, okay?" He grabbed his cellphone from his back pocket. "Beware of who your friends associate with. I'm... I'm on your side, Doreen." Doreen nodded again, her eyes now downcast.
"I know." And with that, he left her in the middle of the carnival alone.

Christina and Marissa were heading towards the large stage situates in the middle of the carnival. It was nearing 8 pm and the sky was already pitch black with several stars glittering out. What the fortune teller said earlier still lingered in their minds no matter what they did. Was she telling the truth? Was she really a fortune teller? Was -
"Oh, sorry." Marissa muttered when she accidentally bumped into someone in her train of thought.
"Sorry." The person apologized as well and Marissa looked up. David smiled down at her and waved. "Hey, Marissa. How are you?" The elemental raised an eyebrow, not noticing that Christina had left her when she spotted the guys a few meters away.
