"Is my sister okay?" A young, female voice asked as the phaser was picking up the numerous toys scattered on the floor. She refrained herself from cursing when her bare foot stepped onto a Lego.
"Hm?" The older girl hummed and threw the Lego piece angrily into the container she was holding. She straightened her back and saw that Bella was staring at her from her sitting position on the couch.
They were in the living room with Bella watching TV and Jazmine cleaning up. Charlie was already put to sleep and Christina had to drive Melarni to the café for open mic night. Marissa on the other hand...
"Missa's in the kitchen baking again." The 5 year stated. Jazmine nodded.
"Yeah, chocolate chip cookies," the teen laughed and picked up a toy truck before putting it into the bin, "but what else is new?"
"She's already made four trays of cookies," The girl's brown eyes stared into her own and Jazmine was amazed by how adult like she was talking, "Missa bakes when she's stressed." The phaser's mouth dropped and formed a small o at the observation. She slowly nodded and sat down next to the younger Majdali.
"Marissa's okay," Jazmine smiled at her and rubbed her back gently, "and it's only natural for a person to be stressed." Bella shook her head.
"She wasn't like that yesterday," she retorted, "and she nearly choked me and Charlie to death earlier when she saw us at your school." Jazmine laughed at that but the young brunette only frowned at her.
"Marissa just loves you guys too much," The phaser smiled, "always remember that. She'll do anything just to protect you guys." With that, she ruffled Bella's soft curls and got up from the couch. The raven haired girl then made her way to the kitchen only to see Marissa standing in front of the oven with a distraught expression. The phaser knocked on the wall and chuckled when she saw the elemental jump and raise her glowing red hands from surprise, something she never saw in the years she's known her.
"Oh, Jaz," Marissa sighed in relief and put her now normal colored hands down, "don't scare me like that." The older girl smirked and walked towards the counter. She picked up a cookie from the four cooling racks and bit into it.
"I didn't know you get scared," She mused while chewing, "you were always so apathetic." The elemental rolled her eyes and crossed her arms before turning back to the oven.
"And you were always an impulsive talker."
"There's the sarcastic girl I know and love." Jazmine snickered and picked up a second cookie. Marissa turned back to her with a glare before turning back around.
"How's Bella?"
"Shouldnt I be asking how you're doing?" Marissa scoffed.
"I'm fine."
"Uh huh~" The older teen chuckled and ate another cookie. "Well, she's concerned about you," her brown eyes burned into the elemental's back, "and she knows that you bake for two armies when you're stressed or have a lot on your mind." At that, the oven dinged.
"I'm fine." The elemental muttered before putting on her oven mitts and taking out the two trays of freshly baked cookies out of the oven.
"Marissa, it's only us two right now," the phaser looked at her, "Bella and Charlie are fine and there's no need for you to - " she was cut off when Marissa slammed the two trays on the counter top. "... keep your feelings to yourself." The raven haired girl finished lamely.
"If I ever see any one from the BSIA," Marissa seethed as she took off her oven mitts, "I will burn them to a crisp and feed them to my dogs." Jazmine cleared her throat before picking up another cookie and eating it.
