Chapter 20

Wednesday

"You know what I wonder about?" Anthony shouted as he hit the tennis ball towards Israel's side. They were currently playing singles and Anthony and Israel chose to play against each other. Everyone was having a blast with their single matches, laughing and talking while hitting the tennis ball back and forth.

"What?" Israel shouted back as he missed the tennis ball. Since everyone was talking loud, no one was interested in anyone's conversations. The superhuman ran to the back of him to retrieve the tennis ball while Anthony walked towards him, the net separating them.

"I said," the shorter male repeated as the taller male walked towards him in curiosity, "'you know what I wonder about?'"

"Weed?" Israel laughed. The other student chuckled but waved him off dismissively.

"Not all the time," Anthony laughed and gestured to the two girls playing against each other five courts away from them, "but I wonder why Lisa doesn't date."

"What?"

"That's what I've heard at least," Anthony nodded, "she's never had a boyfriend or dated anyone. I don't know if she dated anyone in her old school before she transferred to Mayview back in freshman year, but she's never dated anyone here."

Israel raised an eyebrow and glanced at Lisa, who was currently laughing at something Carolina had just shouted at her. How could someone like Lisa not have a boyfriend before? He knew a lot of guys had a crush on her and asked her out, but he also heard that Carolina scared them off.

"Maybe it's Carolina?" Anthony rubbed his chin in thought with his thumb and index finger.

"But I also heard that the moment a guy asks her out, she rejects them immediately." Hearing that caused Israel's shoulders to slump. Anthony rubbed his shoulder in reassurance. "But who knows, right?" He smiled. "Maybe there's hope for you!" Israel sighed dejectedly.

"I doubt it."

It was the start of a new round of a game and Jazmine and Kate stared at each other hard. They were on separate teams and they were both chosen to do the jump off. Standing in between them was Coach McKinley with the basketball to separate them.

"You ready, twinkle toes?" Kate teased as a smirk found a way on her lips. Jazmine narrowed her eyes at her, a frown on her lips.

"Bring it on, newbie." Kate's eyes narrowed at that and a low growl escaped her throat.

"Alright girls!" The coach announced and threw the basketball high into the air. "Go!"

The basketball was well into the air as both students waited for it, arms outstretched and legs crouched. The ball was slowly descending and the fingertips to first touch it was Jazmine's.

"Ah ha!" The phaser shouted victoriously as she jumped high and grabbed the basketball once her fingertips moved it towards her team.

"Cheater!" Kate accused with a pointed finger as the phaser quickly dribbled it away from her and towards the brunette's side. From her anger, she just stayed there rooted to the ground with a pout on her lips while her team chased after the phaser and her team.

"Sore loser!" The phaser shouted back as she jumped and shot the ball into the basket, successfully getting it in. As if feeling that same mystical force try to push her to the ground again, the phaser phased right through it, a smirk on her face. I have a feeling that you're the mystical force, Kate, she thought when she saw Kate glare daggers at her and stomp her feet in annoyance.
