Chapter 1: Stuck with 'Mr. Spit-a-lot'
"I'll love you like I've never been broken"

"Savannah!" Laura came running to me, same old Laura, always hyper and energetic. I missed her so much since we barely got the chance to see each other last summer because she spent her summer in New York to visit her relatives there.
"Hey Laura!" I squeezed her in a tight hug. "So what's with the yelling?" I said
"You'll never guess who's my locker neighbor! Owen Cooper! It's such a fantabulous way to start the year, Savannah! I can tell, this year will be great!" She said with her high pitched voice, it's impossible to not notice her.
I glanced to my left and saw Gavin, Gavin Hudson. I instantly turned my attention back to Laura before he notices. "Um, I don't think so, Laura. My day is completely ruined by now"
"Why? Was it my shouting early in the morning? Well, you better get used to that since I'll be seeing more of Owen Coo- , Omg, is that Gavin? Okay, now I'm feeling more excited! Savannah? Why aren't you?" She looked back at me.
"Nothing Laura, just wishing summer's still here, I guess." I replied.
"Don't be like that on our first day! C'mon! What's your first class?" She said holding my arm and walking towards the hallway.
"History. What luck" I said sarcastically.
"Lucky enough, I have History too! Now show me that pretty smile of yours!" She tickled me right where my weakness is. Laura knows me too well.
"Okay, okay! I'm smiling! see?" As I put a huge smile on my face and try to keep it as normal as possible.
We headed to our classroom and only a few students were there. Very few that made Gavin noticeable. I looked at him and he's happy with his friends, he's laughing and smiling that gave me a hint that he doesn't need me anymore. But then I realized I was already staring at him and he looked back, he smiled at me but I looked at where I'm heading not returning a smile, not even looking at him anymore. We sat down near the windows so we could get a nice view of the park just a few blocks away, I see children having fun and running around. I guess I have a soft spot for kids.
As me and Laura exchanged stories of how our summer went, students filled the classroom and Mr. Matthews walks in. Great, now I'm also stuck with 'Mr. Spit-a-lot'. We call him that since his voice is just too loud and spits everywhere. Seriously, this dude has problems of how keeping his saliva to his self.
I guess I was so carried away of how Mr. Matthews manages to have that big amount of saliva in his mouth, I didn't notice there's only 5 minutes left and History is done! I guess History is not such a bad subject after all.
"Mr. Hudson, mind if you listen to class and stop chatting with your friends? Summer is over, just to remind you. Back to business." But I guess Gavin didn't hear Mr. Spit-a-lot or just pretended that he didn't. "Mr. Hudson!" he shouted and that had Gavin's attention. He stood up and looked at Mr. Matthews curiously.
"Sir?" He said, as if he was so innocent.
"It's the first day of junior year and you're already making a fool out of yourself. Please gather your stuff and exchange seats with -" He scanned the whole classrom trying to look for someone to exchange seats Gavin with.
"Ms. Hart, mind if you exchange seats with Mr. Hudson?" Mr. Matthews asked.
I was sending glares to Laura meaning to NOT exchange places with him, I'd be living in hell if she did that. She opened her mouth and whispered 'sorry' to me and said "I don't mind, sir. Not at all." looking at Mr. Matthews. She gathered her things and headed to the other side of the classroom where Gavin was. I noticed Owen was seating beside Gavin, maybe that's why she gave in. Smart girl.
"Okay then, Gavin exchange with Ms. Hart. You'll be seated with Ms. Roberts, a fine lady like her might influence you in studying harder." turning his head to the class "Now that will be your permanent seat for the rest of the year." He said. I saw Gavin seat down on Laura's chair at the corner of my eye and suddenly the bell was ringing and I could see students standing up to go out of this classroom. Saved by the bell indeed. I walked fast get away from Gavin. But he held my arm.
Spoke too soon, Savannah.
"Hey Savannah" He said with a smirk on his face.
"Hi, I got to go, see you later? Scratch that, see you never." I said shaking my arm to remove it from his hand and hurriedly exited the classroom. I don't know why I hated this guy so much, is it because I'm still not over our friendship misunderstanding? No, Savannah. Don't even think about that anymore. I saw Laura outside the classroom waiting for me, I read on her lips the word 'sorry'.
"I know you liked Owen since forever, I understand that. No need to be sorry about. Now let's get out of here. I don't like Gavin's presence near me"
"Is that what you feel, Savannah?" A voice from behind us spoke, it was Gavin. 'shit' I mumbled to myself.
"Yes, that is exactly how I feel. And why do you even care?" I said.
"Oh, uh. N-Nothing. Nevermind. F-Forget about this, forget about the conversation we had" He said and walked pass us to catch up with his friends.
"Geez, what's his problem?" Laura said.
"I have no idea, Laura. Now how 'bout we head to our next class? What do you have? I have French." I replied
"This year is totally starting to be fun! I have French too! Now come one! I don't want to be late on the first day." She said pulling me towards the hallway packed of students.
On our way to class I heard a voice say "Hi Savannah!" he said. I turned around and it was Andrew Mason . Andrew's a good friend, we've known each other for years but not as long as Gav- , Oh wait, I should really stop thinking about him. Anyways, about Andrew? we did everything together, like Laura. He's like Laura in a boy version. I hope that makes sense?
"Hey Andrew!" I replied.
"Where you heading?" He asked.
"French class, you?" I said, returning a question.
"French too! Mind if I join you gals walking?" He said showing a sweet smile of his.
"We don't mind at all!" Laura said from behind. It was funny how Laura does that, she just comes from nowhere but wherever she's at, expect your day to be awesome.
