Chapter 4

[Sungjae's POV]

The day of the camping project came and I made sure I got all the necessary and useful things in my backpack: flashlight, extra pants, extra shoes, cell phone, extra battery and wireless charger etc.

"Yah, Peniel, where do you think you are going?" I asked while watching him pack his things.

"Why again?"

"Are you afraid to get hungry?" I asked.

He shrugged and went on putting food and snacks in his backpack. "I'd rather be cold than hungry." He said.

"Your backpack is like a little fridge." Changsub said.

We laughed and went on teasing him until the alarm buzzed. It's time to go.

It's a two-day school trip and of all things, our homeroom teacher chose mountain hiking. How great.

"Get on the bus once I call your name alright?" She said.

"Yes." They responded.

The blankets and tents will be provided by the school so we didn't have to bring much.

"Im Hyunsik..."

"Here."

"Jung Mi Ra..."

"Here."

"Kim Sohyun..." she called.

I looked around but I didn't see her. Did she change her mind?

"Kim Sohyun..." she called again.

"I think she's not here yet." I said and looked around again.

I rubbed the back of my neck. Why do I feel disappointed that she wouldn't come?

"Lee Changsub..."

"Here!"

Sohyun didn't come even when I was called and had to get on the bus. I sat in an empty seat and put my earphones on.

"Kim Sohyun really decided not to come til the end." Our teacher said. "Let's go, let's go! We're late."

I sighed and closed my eyes to get more sleep. But I don't feel good inside and it's strange...

The loud music brought me to a world of my own and I started to fall asleep hoping somehow Sohyun came.

Sohyun's POV

I was still breathing heavily after running for the bus. I was almost left behind. I woke up late but I already packed my things last night so I just had to get ready.

My parents don't know that I'm coming to the mountain hike event. They strictly forbid it because they don't want me to do such tiring activities. I understand but I will lose double points, plus... I really want to experience this.

Everyone was looking at me when I got on the bus and every seat is occupied except for one... beside Yook Sungjae. Why do I always end up with him?

I sighed and sat beside him but I think he was sleeping deeply that he didn't notice.

I smiled. I'm excited because I haven't done something like this before. Somehow I'm thankful towards him for convincing me- or better to say for making me come.

I put my earphones on but I couldn't fall asleep. Maybe because I've overslept already.

Everyone looks so excited and I realized... for once, just for once, I want to live. I want to live, not just exist.
