We woke under a blanket, all tangled up in skin. Not knowing in that moment, we'd never speak again. But it was perfect and I never will forget.
"We owned the night." Sabrina whispered into my ear.
(See what I did there? If you know what I mean, Ik you sung that in your head when you read it.)
--------------------
"I-I don't understand." I say to myself. It was six in the morning. A week after the girls left. MY girls.
I thought it was going good. We woke up with hangovers, keeping each other warm. Hell, if I'd known they were leaving that day, I would've never woken up. They were supposed to be mine.
Fuck it. Fuck everything.
---
"Are you drunk again?" My boss, Charlie, asked while shaking his head."You're supposed to be representing the law. What the hell is wrong with you?" His eyes are getting cold.
"My girls.." I hold back tears from being such an emotional drunk.
"What are you talking about?" He slaps me on the back of my uniform.
From me looking up with bloodshot eyes, it made his eyes soften.
"Damnit," he sighs, "Go home and get some rest, Matt. Sober up, too. I'll let you know when we need you back here at the station." He squeezes my shoulder then leaves.
It felt as if he just fired me. I slowly go home, trudge up the stairs, and plop down on the girls' bed. They only took a few outfits, leaving everything else behind.
I smell them in their sheets, like they're sleeping next to me. I wished I hadn't gone out to the store to get some Advil. Or perhaps take in to consideration what was whispered in my ear that morning.
I slept quietly, better than the last week. I dreamt of them coming back, jumping on the bed to wake me. I didn't realize how sudden I can change without someone.
*Sabrina's POV*
"I don't know, maybe we should've explained to him." Amanda looks at me.I give her a sympathetic look. She knew what I whispered to Matt before we all got up, but she thought it would be too much to say goodbye, herself.
I nod absentmindedly.
We were already up in New York. Why, you ask? Why from Ohio to New York? Well, we have to try out for our new job.
Even if it meant to put going to school on hiatus. Or even drop out.
We had to come early considering they had to set things up, rearrange, and since they were busy, organize everything and everybody.
Today was our big day. Our turn.
To be able to apply for this job, you actually have to be eighteen. But we're what... Seventeen.. Sixteen? No. Seventeen, maybe. Do you know? Comment if you do because I don't.
But they make an exception, if you can drive well, you are able to take place.
After the test, we both pass. Now we can tell you what our new job is. We get to drive famous people around, for lots of money, and that's all!! How amazing is that? Pretty amazing!
"So," Our new boss, Larry, begun, "for your first day, you get to drive a tribute band around. They tribute for Kiss."
Amanda and I look at each other smiling, reading the thoughts bouncing around the room.
