"Babe your phone, it's ringing"

I groaned as I turned over, I stared at the screen seeing the same missed call from a number I hadn't recognized.

I sat up in bed calling back the number, I rubbed the sleep out of my eyes when Leah burst into the room crying uncontrollably.

"Leah woah!"
I sat down my phone, Reagan woke up this time and jumped out of bed.

"OH MY GOD NO!!"

"Leah what?!"
I came to her, she held her phone in her hand and it was the same area code as the phone number that called me.

Reagan wrapped her arms around Leah as she fell slowly to the floor, her sobbing made a lump in my throat form, I didn't want to hear what the person on the other end had to say.

"Hello"
I put the phone to my ear.

"Yes, this is Violet from Declare Hospital, your mother Melissa Ethridge has been in a serious car accident, your listed as her daughters here on her file, she is in and out quite rarely and we are unsure of how long she is going to make it"

I felt the lump in my throat tighten, my eyes found Leah and Reagan sitting on the ground, and I knew I had to be strong for her, strong for Leah, strong for Cameron and her unborn child.

"This is her daughter Katie copeland, you tried calling my cellphone multiple times, have you got in contact with her husband Ricky?"

"Yes, he is here now, Ms. Copeland, how quick can you get here, your mother doesn't have much longer, whenever she does come through it's always a name of one of her three daughters"

"We are - we are leaving now, we will be there"
I hung up Leah's phone and pushed it into my pocket, I finally felt the tears fall from my eyes as I pulled Leah up from the floor.

"We are going to be with her okay, you've got to stand up, we've got to get to our plane"
Reagan glanced at me and seen the tears falling from my eyes.

Just looking at her and feeling as if she was my security made me want to cry and for her to hold me and tell me that everything was going to be okay, and that this was all some stupid dream. But I couldn't, I couldn't put that weight on her.

I wiped my eyes and walked past them and down the hall to Cameron's bedroom. I opened the door quickly seeing her asleep on her back, this was going to be terrible for her pregnancy.

I sat next to her on the bed and gently ran my thumb over the side of her face.

"Ca-Cameron"
I felt the lump forming in my throat again, and the tears straining to come out.

"Cam-Cameron"
I spoke again, this time her eyes fluttered open and her eyes filled with concern.

"Katie?"
She pushed herself up in her bed.

"Katie?"
She shook my arm.

"What's wrong?"
I felt the tears fall from my eyes and I knew telling her was going to be hard.

"Mom- mom is in the hospital, she doesn't have long, we - we have to go be with her"

Cameron stared at me
"Wh-what?, what happened?"

"Mom got in a car accident, she's not got long"
I repeated, feeling the hot tears pour down my cheeks.

I heard Leah and Reagan coming down the hall and soon Leah was burying her face in Cameron's shoulder as they cried together, Reagan looked at me full of concern.

I stood up and went to her, I grabbed her face and looked into her eyes.
"I have to go to Arizona"

She put her hands over mine
"Go be with your mother Katie, go be with her"
