(A week later)
Frankie and I stood outside a fresh new store.
"This is headquarters, I only say that because it sounds cool"
I smiled at myself and followed him inside.
"Printers , computers , iPads , desks , offices, you name it it's here, we have it all, now art supplies is where we start next, our first project is for a school, the high school I graduated from needs us to make a game banner, there mascot is a bear and there school colors are orange and maroon"
I stared down at the pictures of the mascot and the colors and felt my mind run ideas wildly.
"Okay this is simple"Frankie smiled
"You think so?""A banner, you put the mascot at the top of the banner, just the head"
I moved around the templates on the table we were standing around."Put the school name, whatever underneath it, and at the bottom put the full sized mascot just as a smaller icon and then put stripes of orange and maroon"
Frankie stared down at the template I had pieced together and nodded.
"I think it looks fantastic.""Really?"
I smiled, feeling proud of myself."Now the fun part, computer designing and getting it ready"
He rubbed his hands together and turned to the two cubicles that were our desks."Quick question"
He turned to me."Hmm?"
I looked over at him."What is our shop going to be called?"
I glanced outside seeing passing traffic and pedestrians walking by. I couldn't name a shop Reagan so it had to be fresh and cool, something better, something that would make my heart race when I heard it.
I turned and stared at my new friend. The Latino was tapping his pen thinking thoughtfully too, he looked and acted like he was intimidating but he called our shop headquarters and I feel like he's secretly a nerd, and it made me want to be his friend even more. I bit my lip and thought about that night Reagan told me she was leaving, I felt her hand on mine as we watched the sunset go down and the stars started coming out, one by one, as if they were safe and didn't have to hide away anymore.
"Stellar- stellar designs"
Frankie nodded.
"Interstellar design and graphics""IDG for short"
I smiled.I got goosebumps on my skin when Frankie began nodding and smiling.
"This mean we are a team?"I nodded
"Yeah, let's start a business"I turned back to my computer and started working, wondering if my dad felt this good about himself when he started his company, if the goosebumps raised his arm hair, if he felt like smiling so much that he was sure his face would get stuck like that.
I glanced around at the empty store, we would have to put some artistic touches on this place.
"Frankie, do you like video games?"
I turned in my chair seeing him blushing."I think most of my life revolves around them, I've played pretty much every game they've released"
"Sims was always my favorite"
"Sims is a good one"
He smiled.Outside the sky was darkening and I knew it was getting late and my house would be silent besides a screaming baby.
