A P R I L

They started dating three weeks later.

A week and a half later another kiss had followed, and after that a couple more at times.

It was effortless with Kay. He could be himself with her, and close his eyes when she was cuddled up next to him. Silences weren't awkward. He wasn't as nervous. He had the feeling he could trust her.

It has been four months since that night, the night Andy disappeared.

He had talked to Kay about Andy. She didn't seem to mind. She watched him as he wrote down some lyric ideas about her, or did final touches to a song he didn't manage to finish yet. He was sitting on his bed in his own world, and she was just watching as if it was the most normal thing.
And she didn't seem to mind it.

Neither of it.

She seemed to appreciate Calum talking to her the way he did. She knew Calum's weak spots about his past relationships, and didn't try to bad talk him nor tried to sugar-coat what happened to him. She didn't make fun of him, nor looked at him with a face full of compassion. But she did listen. And Calum thought it felt really nice.

She didn't pressure him to anything and didn't rush at high speed into a relationship with him.

Kay turned out to be super smart and her own person. Calum found out she wrote poetry, and when he looked over her shoulder he was quite impressed. When she caught his eyes, she smiled softly and went back to writing.

It was almost like vacation, being with Kay without needing words to speak, each of them doing their thing and yet there were together. Sometimes he was choosing the music, and sometimes she did choose one of her 80's vinyls.

His friends secretly knew he was seeing someone, but they never questioned it as long as Calum was more involved in the band than ever.

It was just the way that Calum sat at school smiling into distance and being excited to get out if school and to work, because even after Leonardo was healthy and back to work again she would just surprise him at work and sit down on some table to write down things in her notebook.

One time, she took two notebooks with her to work and placed one in front of Calum before taking a sip from her sprite whipe still grinning at Calum until he raised an eyebrow.

"Come on, open it."

He washed his hands and wiped them on a towel before walking closer to her, opening the notebook carefully.

A notebook to support all the incredible songs you write.
Kaycee.

Was written in ink in her cursive handwriting. He looked up at her.

"You can also write down anything in there.", she said, gazing down to the black notebook in his hands.

"Thank you", he smiled.

It turned out to be a good idea in fact. From now on Calum didn't leave the house without his notebook, and whenever anything came into his mind he wrote them down in it immediately. It didn't look at nice and clean as her notebook, everything was messed up and he crossed things out just as much as he doddled random drawings inside it when he thought about words to write down. It was a real relief, the songs just floating out of him.

With her, he felt save.
