» Tried to break from this lonely pain,
Someone told me I'm just insane. Broke my heart when I knew,
That I could never be with you. «song : someone told me

They drove out of town.
They drove and drove and drove and it seemed they would never stop but somehow they ended up at the old house by the lake where Calum spend most of his early childhood.
A place where a lot of great memories had been made.
Everything was dark, and it had become one with the silence surrounding it.
Calum sat down at the edge of the footbridge and she sat down next to him.
It took a while until either of them said anything, but as Esme looked down to her knees bent over and Calum out on the lake, he was the first to speak.
"It was around the time that I was a sophomore I guess, when we got the diagnosis."
With him talking, she looked back up at him, but his eyes were still focused on the endless darkness in front of them.
"I didn't really bother at first, because nothing much had changed. He would forget some things at times, but it was just stupid things that weren't a big deal."
"But it got worse."He took a long and deep breath and swallowed before going on.
"It was coming to that time that he would forget mine or my sisters birthday. I blamed the age back then, and I didn't mind to get my present 2 days late.
But then he started asking about grandma.", for a moment he looked at her, only to have a reason to escape her gaze again. "And she died about 10 years ago.""Calum you don't-"
"No, I want to.", he interrupted her. "He always took me here. This was his house for the weekends and days off. He taught me how to fish here. Just fooling around like you would imagine a boy do with his grandpa."
"We always went there when grandpa was in that state. I was fishing. We tried to make the best of it. At one point it got so bad that he would try to bake a cake and forgot to take it out in time and the firefighters had to come. My mom was crying for two days, and then never again. She decided it was time for him to get him into old people's home where he was observed twentyfourseven and people took care for him. She gave up on him."
"When he was there, I would visit him all the time. Sat by his bed, told him about my day, my success in the soccer team, made him smile. He said I would get us the world cup one day.", he took a short break to have a smile cross his face. But it soon turned into a frown. "Then, one day he wouldn't recognize me anymore."
"Calum, I don't know what to say."
"He didn't know who I was anymore."
From that moment she heard something inside his voice break and shutter into a million pieces. The air was suddenly freezing. Calum sniffled, his hand to his mouth and wiped a tear on his cheek. He was tensed for a moment, then suddenly sunk together a bit and grabbed the wood under them tightly and looked up in the sky.
"However. He died three weeks later. It was just two days before Aline broke up with me. My mom started the fight with the lawyer about the inheritance that is still going on to this day. Sold his house. I had my friends, still, but they never knew about me visiting my grandpa. I was embarrassed. I was on my own."
"I started experimenting with drugs, screwed random girls that I did not even know, pushed everyone away including my three best friends. That was when I saw you in the hallway and was like 'who is this girl?' And that girl made me realize that I didn't want to be the one I was at this time."
