We decided we was going to keep the child. My father had disowned me (I didn't really care), but Joan and Luke had promised to help us in all ways possible.
Melissa was going to carry on at college for as long as she could. We was going to see the midwife today to see if everything was ok and to get an exact date on how long Melissa had been pregnant for.
Joan drove us there and we went in together. Melissa had her hand clutched around mine. She was nervous. I squeezed her hand gently and smiled at her. I wanted to be reassuring but I was nervous too.
The midwife did what she needed to, and told us she was almost seven weeks pregnant now, and the baby was doing fine.
Melissa smiled. We were going to get though this together. I loved her and would do anything to keep her protected.
When we'd finished seeing the midwife, Joan dropped me off at work then drove her and Melissa home.
I started work. So much was on my mind, I couldn't think straight. All I knew is that I wanted to look after the both of them forever.
I was just about to take my full glass carrier to the bar when someone, who was drunk, knocked into me. I fell to the floor, dropping the glasses everywhere.
"Shit" I mumbled, quickly getting up.
The man just stumbled off like he hadn't done a thing. A friend from the bar came out and helped me clean up the smashed glass.
After we'd cleaned up, she took me to the back of the club and looked me over.
"What's wrong with you?" Lizzie asked. It wasn't harsh, more concerned.
"It's nothing" I said, forcing a smile. I hadn't told anyone that I was going to be a dad. How could I?
"Come on, I know you"
I sighed, heavily. She wouldn't let me leave unless I told her. Lizzie was like that.
"I'm going to be a dad"
"So that's what's on your mind?" She smiled. "Congratulations are in order"
I smiled. "Thanks, Lizzie. Keep it quiet for now though, please?"
"Secret's safe with me"
Lizzie was 25. I liked her a lot, she was always so helpful and she was always there for me.
She left the room, her black hair swishing behind her. I quickly followed and carried on working.
When I finished, I started the 20 minute walk back to Melissa's. The man from earlier came up to me. He was more drunk than before. What was he going to do? It was dark and quiet now.
"What do you want?" I asked. I wasn't going to make myself sound menacing because I wasn't. I was just me.
"You knocked into me earlier, in the club" he was slurring, and looked ready to pass out.
"You fell into me, really" I shrugged and walked off.
When I got back, I quietly let myself in. A light was on in the kitchen. That was unusual.
I slowly walked into the kitchen. It was Melissa.
"Hey baby. What are you doing up? It's late" I whispered.
She turned around and looked at me. Her eyes were red. "Couldn't sleep"
"You look tired" I knew she had been crying. A nightmare maybe? Things were pretty crazy at the minute.
I hugged her. "Come on. Lets go to bed now"
She nodded and, after I'd locked up, we went up to her room. She laid under the covers and I laid next to her. I fell asleep instantly.
