I was so angry. Why had she done it?

I kept running. I ran to the area I always went to when I wanted to be alone. I sat down and hung my head. That's when the tears began to fall.

"Why, Melissa?" I whispered. "Why did you do it? I thought you loved me"

I sat there for a while. I wasn't sure how long. The brisk cold of May bit at my skin. I didn't care.

Suddenly, they was a rustling noise behind me. I sat still, frozen, afraid of who or what it was.

"Tristan" it was Melissa. I didn't want to see her, not now.

She came out into the open and I looked at her.

"Why did you do it?" I stared at the floor.

"I'm sorry" she whimpered. She sounded so pathetic.

I felt my anger building. "Tell me why" I said more forcefully than I'd expected.

She backed off slightly. "I... I don't know"

"You said you could explain"

"I was drunk. I think I've got post natal depression"

"Even if you did, it wouldn't show until around six months. You're a liar, Melissa"

She looked down. "Fine! You want the truth? I can't stand being around that crying baby all the time. I can't cope with it crying all the time!" She snapped.

I got up, done with the things she was saying. "You know what, fine. Take your stuff and leave. Go back to your mums. I'll look after HIM" I said, emphasizing the word 'him'.

She looked hurt. "So you don't love me"

"It's you who doesn't love me, Melissa. Don't come near us again" with that, I left her there.

The next day Melissa collected her stuff and brought Lucca back with Joan.

When she'd got her things she went to the car.

"Me and Luke are always here. If you ever need help, give us a call" she quickly hugged me.

I nodded. "Thanks, Joan"

She left.

"It's just you and me now, buddy" I whispered to Lucca as I picked him up out the car seat.

2 years later:

I woke up and made my way to Lucca's room. He was awake and waiting for me. He smiled when I walked in.

"Dada"

I laughed and picked him up.

He's now two years old and we aren't living in the same town anymore. It was too painful to see Melissa walking around, especially when she found someone new.

The first few months was hard, but I'd got by. Me and Lizzie had become close in those months, and she drives down sometimes to see me and Lucca. We're only friends before you ask. She loves Lucca to bits and is always spoiling him with toys and clothes.

I took an apprenticeship in IT and recently started working as an IT technician in the local secondary school. Lucca stays at a nursery play group while I work. He loves it there.

My dad's been great. He comes down most weekends to spend time with me and Lucca. He's stopped drinking, cleaned up his act, and even met someone new. Her name's Danielle. Lovely women with blonde hair and green eyes. They both dote on Lucca. He's spoiled by everyone.

Me? Well I'm healing and enjoying life with my son.
