Chapter 35

I woke up to the sun blaring in my eyes.

8:30am

Liam leaves today.

We were still on the rooftop. Must've been too tired to go back to the room. My head was still resting on Liam's shoulder and Liam's eyes are already opened.

"I'll miss this. I'll miss you." Liam said.

"Are you ready?" I asked. "I never will be. But it has to be done." Liam says as he stands up and takes me with him.

"The cab comes in a few minutes..." Liam says and I nodded.

"I'm coming with you." I said and Liam shook his head. "No. I don't want you to go home alone." Liam answered. "I'll ride the cab. Please, Liam just let me be with you a little bit longer. Please.." I said and Liam sighed. "Call Iñigo, tell him to accompany us so he can go with you back to your house." Liam said and I nodded and immediately called Iñigo to meet us at the hotel.

We slowly walked back to the elevator and to the room in a deafening silence.

Liam grabbed his suitcases from the door and locked it.

Be strong. Don't cry.

"I'm so excited to see you tour the world again." I said as we got into the elevator. "Me too. It isn't fun all the time, though." Liam said and we left the conversation like that. Something changed between us and we both knew it.

Liam checked out and we were met by Paddy at the lobby.

A few minutes later, Iñigo arrived. Liam and Iñigo shook hands and I saw Liam discreetly whisper something to Iñigo with him agreeing.

"Let's go?" Liam said as I nodded numbly. Paddy came with us to the car. The driver in his seat, Paddy beside him, Liam, Iñigo, and I in the back with me in the middle.

The drive to the airport was silent except for the faint sound of the radio playing "See You Again" by Charlie Puth.

Liam interlaced our hands together and kissed the back of my hand.

"Always" Liam whispered.

I didn't notice that Iñigo was watching the whole time.

We arrived at the airport a few minutes later. The only place I don't want us to be at right now.

Liam and I got out with Iñigo going out the other way. Iñigo helped Liam with his bags and together, we all walked to where I would last see Liam in a long time.

"This is it." Liam said.

"I'll be expecting you back." I said as I didn't even try to stop the tears. Liam embraced me in a tight hug.

"You're special to me, Dianne. My first love. I'll see you again." Liam said. "You're the only one in my heart right now, Liam. Everything hurts." I said. That's when Liam shed a tear too.

Liam just hugs me tighter.

"I love you" He says as he looks at me and takes my hand in his, slowly kissing my ring finger.

"Our ring will be on this finger someday." Liam said. He didn't promise.

Iñigo was still watching.

"Last call for flight 728, London bound"

"Take this. It contains all my promises. My happiness." Liam says as he hands me a journal.

"I love you." Liam said and he kissed my cheek.

"I love you too. Always" I answered.

Liam looked into my eyes one last time before nodding back at Iñigo.

Liam walks out the gates with one last wave,

And he's gone.

I started to cry and I felt like my whole world was gone....but no.

Iñigo was there with me. My best friend of so many years, who has been with me during my happiest moments, stood by even if I rejected him hundreds of times, and who was there even if I didn't see him.

"It'll be okay. I know you more than anyone, Dianne. You're a strong person, no struggle would bring you down." Iñigo says.

"b-bu-"

"Shhhh." Iñigo silenced me. He then gives me the warmest hug and kissed me on the forehead. Weirdly, that didn't feel wrong and it soothed me.

We both took deep breaths, and it was time to open the Journal that Liam gave me.

I shakily opened the journal, the nervousness and anxiety getting the most of me.

It was filled mostly with doodles and scribbles of all our happy moments. It was his journal while he was with me.

I broke down in tears in the middle of the airport. My knees failing me.

Iñigo was beside me the whole time, whispering sweet nothings into my ear.

Every page had the words "I promise," on the top.

The last page contained that,

and three last words.
