Thomas's POV
I offered to go with Maya to her second round of chemo. She was really tired and kept falling asleep on my shoulder while Noah drove us to the hospital.
"Thomas?" She said, half asleep.
"Yeah, babe?"
"I love you," she mumbled.
"I love you, too," I said.
She intertwined our hands. I brought them to my lips and kissed the edge of her hand.
I saw Noah smile sadly from the driver's seat. This had to be tough for him. He had to go through it before with his sister and now a second time with Maya.
"You really care about her, don't you?" Noah asked me when he pulled into the parking lot.
"Yeah. I love her. I don't know what I'd do without her," I said and smiled down at my beautiful girlfriend.
"You know there's a chance she might not make it, right?"
"I'm well aware, but thanks for the reminder."
"Hey, I'm just trying to help. I know this is hard, but you have to remember that chemo isn't the end all cure for cancer. It can only help her so far," Noah said. "Just don't get your hopes up too high. I've been through this before, and it's a lot harder to find closure when you try to only see positive."
I couldn't help thinking that Nick would've laughed in his face if he was here.
"Thanks for the advice. I'll keep it in mind."
I shook Maya slightly to wake her up. She sleepily got out of the car, and Noah rushed her inside, not waiting for me to catch up. I was going to argue but decided not to. He only got a week off from school; he was going to spend as much time with her as possible.

Maya relaxed in the chair and waited for the nurse to administer the medicine. She winced, and I reacted by grabbing the person's arm.
"Stop! You're hurting her," I said forcefully.
"Thomas, I'm fine. It's okay," Maya reassured.
I gave the doctor a glare as she walked out of the room. Maya grabbed my hand and pulled me down into the seat next to her.
"Does it always hurt like that?" I asked.
"Yeah. It's not that bad after a while," she says. Her face goes pale, and she groans. "Oh, no."
"What? What's wrong?"
"Noah, get me the bucket. I'm gonna be sick."
Noah reached over and handed her the bucket just in time for her to empty her stomach into it. I held her hair behind her back as she got sick.
"Are you alright?" I asked when she finished getting sick.
"Yeah. That's the worst part of it. The pain is tolerable, but the vomiting," she said and shuddered.
"I'll go get another bucket," Noah said and left to find one.

Maya sat on the couch between Noah and me. She had fallen asleep on Noah's shoulder when we got back from the hospital.
"Is this what it was like? With Isabella? She would be tired all the time?" I asked.
"Yeah. Sometimes she would be fine. It all depends," he said.
"I just hope she gets better."
"We all do."
"You don't get it," I mumbled.
